AUSSIE MONTH with Louise Forster

Describe yourself in one word:
Wow that’s a difficult question. But I would have to say I’m driven by, Emotion with a capital E.

Tell us about I’ve Got You:
Belle Fabrini fell in love with the boy next door, Kabe Hunter, when she was in her mid-teens. He was a little older, (had his licence) thought she was cute, and felt a whole lot more. He was aware she had problems and would often spend time with her sitting on the front steps chatting and laughing. Though devastated when he left town, she understood why he needed to go. They drifted apart and then it was her turn to leave. Years later, when she had a fabulous job and he ran his own sailing/tourism business, and under extreme circumstances, they connected again. Which is where the story begins.

What inspired this novel?
Years ago we were up at the stunning Whitsunday Islands. It’s beautiful, tropical, and hot. We took a boat tour did some snorkelling in the crystal clear, aqua water. Swam over beautiful coral and colourful tropical fish. We spent a few hours on a skippered yacht. Sailing the deep blue pacific was exhilarating and, other than wind straining sails and the slap of waves hitting the hull, it was strangely peaceful. We were well looked after, our job was sit back and soak up the beauty of white beaches, and tropical islands dotted throughout the Whitsundays. I asked the skipper had he ever been caught in a storm. ‘Sometimes they come out of nowhere,’ he said, eyes on the clear blue sky. Right. I let my imagination soar.

What are you reading right now?
I just finished reading. Dirty English, by Ilsa Madden-Mills. J

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Visit Cairns plus a side trip to Kakadu. Broome and Alice Springs, when it’s not too hot. Sorry, that’s not one thing, is it? But then Australia’s a big country. I should’ve said, see more of Australia.

Best thing about being an Aussie?
A sense of relief that we have freedom to live, love, and that we have amazing people who do extraordinary things. Family and friends, barbeques and cricket on the beach. Yelling at your game of choice. Yelling at the tellie because a politician said something stupid. There are so many answers to this question, but I thank my lucky stars, and, I’m just phenomenally happy that I live here.

You know that Sydney 2000 was one of our proudest moments in history. We just f…g rock.
You feel obliged to spread salty black stuff that looks like congealed motor oil on bread… and actually grow to like it. You’ve also squeezed Vegemite through Vita Wheats to make little Vegemite worms.
You have the ability to compress several words into one – ie ‘g’day’ and ‘d’reckn?’. This allows more space for profanities.
You’ve drunk your tea/coffee/Milo through a Tim Tam.

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
It’s so diverse it encompasses most other genres. So there’s something to delight every reader.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2016?
There will be a sequel to Home Truths, titled, Together In Tumble Creek, to be released next March. Readers will learn what happens with two characters in the first book; Sofie, an ex-high school teacher, and Brock, an ex SAS soldier. She is more than ready to take the next step, in fact any step forward, a date would be good, or a coffee, anything, as long as Brock’s doing the asking. He’s big, powerful, has seen and experienced a hell of a lot. But nothing, and no one brings him more undone than Sofie Dove.

Belle Fabrini is sailing through the Whitsunday Islands to see her grandfather, when she’s caught in a freakish storm. Luckily, Kabe Hunter finds her and hoists her on board his yacht just before a huge wave threatens to end her life.

Belle hasn’t seen Kabe since high school, a time she spent crushing on Kabe in a big way. Now he’s sitting across from her in a tiny cabin wearing nothing but a towel. But Kabe has a reputation for loving and leaving gorgeous tourists, and Belle doesn’t need any more complications in her life.

Kabe, however, has other plans. Belle has always been different, and it seems like only he can see through her happy-go-lucky façade to the pain behind. Belle is drowning in her secrets, but Kabe has no intention of losing her, now that he’s finally found her again.
