SPOTLIGHT ON… Author Advocate: Indie Author Land

Indie Author Land

1.     Describe yourself in one word:
Wordy. Far too wordy to describe myself – or anything – in a single word.

2.     Tell us a little about your website/blog:
My website is Indie Author Land (www.indieauthorland.com).  We are a free promotion site for indie authors. We give authors a platform to introduce their latest book to the world – and then we go on social media and trumpet it and do our damnedest to make as many readers as possible aware of the book.

3.     What can you do specifically to help authors?
Nothing that they can’t do for themselves. But we’d much rather writers focused on writing new books – we’re enthusiastic readers; let us handle the promotion.

4.     You have great marketing direction, what’s your number one digital marketing tip for authors?
Acquire an army. You could go on Twitter and tweet repeatedly about how great your book is and no one would care.  People only really begin to pay attention when someone else recommends your book. So don’t put your energy into promoting yourself; focus on acquiring people that’ll promote you.

5.     Your all-time favourite novel and/or novelist?
My favourite novel is always the last one I read.  Though I’ve reread Salman Rushdie’s Satanic Verses loads of times, so maybe that counts too.

6.     Favourite fictional character:
Haven’t read an Agatha Christie novel in years, but I really loved Hercule Poirot as a child.

7.     Number one thing to do on your bucket list:
Travel a lot more in Asia. I’ve seen a bit of it, but I’d love to take six months and see a lot more.

8.     What book has changed your opinion/stance on something important to you, and why?
I stay away from books that try to change my mind.  No one likes being harangued or preached at.  I’d much rather read a book, enjoy the story – and learn something new about the world without realising it.

9.     Biggest accomplishment to date:
I just got married.  My wife’s way out of my league, so I guess it’s that.

10.  What’s next for you?
We’ve been very lucky with Indie Author Land – it’s grown and grown and grown. We’ve been brainstorming on how to make it even bigger. It’s a lot of work and we make absolutely no money from it, but it’s a lot of fun and every time we help a writer whose work we genuinely admire find their audience, it’s the best feeling in the world.

  1. Well There sure are many indie authors who need recognition for their hard work. I’m not an author, but I understand their struggle to overcome so many obstacles…and that makes me appreciate them even more. Creating such a great supportive group as this one is a marvelous idea. Thank you for this great post!

    • You are absolutely correct, it is so difficult for authors, particularly independent authors to gain recognition. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment with this feedback.
