AUSSIE MONTH with Kia Carrington-Russell
AUSSIE MONTH with Kia Carrington-Russell
Describe yourself in one word:
Eccentric
Tell us about Token Vampire:
Token Vampire, which I wrote so quickly to have it released before Christmas because I thought my girls and a few fans would start knocking on my door (hehe) I loved writing this book, which is the second in the Token Huntress Series. I can clearly see the transformation in the main character and it was very dark in comparison to my other books, and I loved it!
What inspired this novel?
Esmore’s story and how much she wanted it to be told. I never knew how much I would fall in love with all the new and exciting characters but, so it inspires me to write of a dystopian world, and to make it feel as real as possible. That is what makes me both excited and inspired.
What are you reading right now?
Bastard by J. L Perry. I met her at a recent Sydney signing event and she is an amazing author. I had my own table set up and continued to sit down and talk with her. Pretty amazing lady and a good story teller.
Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Go to Japan. I am a huge anime and manga nerd, love Japanese food, and I also love their traditional and pop culture. Also have you seen photos of their cherry blossoms, such a beautiful country!!!
Best thing about being an Aussie?
Not the hot sticky weather! Probably the freedom we have more so then other countries, and the landscape. We have some beautiful destinations.
What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
I never thought I would be a contemporary romance or erotica author. I started with Young Adult and Paranormal all with romance in it. My editor suggested that I write a contemporary romance because she thought I was good at chemistry and build up a love and drama. So I gave it go! Turns out I loved it. I also read a lot more romance and erotica myself, without paranormal, to compare my writing with other authors, as it is still a new genre to me. I can mix romance with anything, and love paranormal romance, but it’s completely different when it is just romance or erotica.
What have you got in store for your readers in 2016?
2016 is my planned power year. I got distracted a lot this year and was unable to do a lot of the things I want to. This year I hope to release ten books, concluding the series I already have released, and starting on two new big upcoming series I have been sitting on for a year. I am planning an American Book Signing tour mid next year, so I can meet many of my readers and Street Team, and of course my beautiful PA, Julia. I want to smash this New Year out, this is my year to become a well-known author and have everyone know my name and pick up a book. No matter how hard I have to work for that, I will achieve that goal. Wish me luck, lots of tears and sweat to be had, but it will be so worth it.
What were your big achievements of 2015?
Token Huntress Series was a huge achievement as it boomed and is now my best seller. I wasn’t sure on the reaction people would have on it, they would either love it or hate it, and so far, readers can’t get enough of it which was great. This year I did a lot of signings at Dymock Bookstores which is amazing. I have met many amazing authors at events I participated at such as Readers and Writers Down Under; Sydney Australian Book Expo; Supanova Brisbane. And I am so proud of my Street Team on facebook, Kia’s Dark Warriors. I have such an amazing and supportive team on there and brag about them to everyone because I am so smitten by them. Julia and I only started this team at the start of the year and already it has grown into an amazing group, who I absolutely adore and appreciate so much. Thank you girls!!! xx
Token Huntress

The sun’s light dimmed many centuries before; now in the year of 2,341 rampant vampires now stalk their victims in a half-lit world. Humanity has been overtaken by a new society: one comprised of vampires, the supernatural beings that hunt them, and the remaining humans they fight over. The laws and rules that once bound our world have long since been lost. Now, the Hunter Guild struggle to stay one step ahead of the Vampire Council.
Esmore, Token Huntress, has exceeded all expectations at only 18 years of age. She is fearless leader to her team, and she is relentless in her pursuit of the enemy. There is only one problem: Esmore is struggling to repress the growing darkness that seduces her from within. Esmore takes another step into the darkness when she encounters a teasing, tantalizing — utterly unignorable — vampire.
The lines between right and wrong are blurred further as Esmore gives into her temptation, and her reality becomes deliciously tainted both with evil and with lust.
