AUSSIE MONTH with Amy Rose Bennett

Describe yourself in one word:
Tenacious

Tell us about ‘Mistletoe, Marriage, and Mayhem’:
This is a collection of Christmas novellas by the Bluestocking Belles, a Regency writers group I am very proud to be a member of. I’ve contributed the novella ‘All She Wants For Christmas’. Since its release on November 1, it’s been a best-seller on Amazon (in Regency and hot new holiday releases) and even got a mention in Madeline Hunter’s column in USA Today! The anthology has a runaway brides theme and all proceeds are being donated to the Malala Fund, a charity that supports the education of girls and women around the world. My story features a bluestocking heroine who is publicly compromised by a rake at a Yuletide ball and is then obliged to wed him to save the family name. The only problem is, my bluestocking has a secret, one she is loath to share with anyone, least of all a devil-may-care nobleman even if he is good friends with her older brother. Aside from having a runaway bride, my story explores themes of acceptance, generosity of spirit and trust.

What inspired this novel?
It’s an interesting question for me to answer without spoiling the plot. Suffice it to say, my heroine, Tessa Penrose has a secret—a disability—that has kept her from fully participating in ton social events, and from seeking a husband. I once saw a photo on Facebook of a little girl with a particular disability that made me think, how would a woman, someone who is supposed to be graceful and adhere to certain social ‘rules’, manage during the Regency era if she had such a disability? So I guess that was my main inspiration.

What are you reading right now?
Eva Leigh’s ‘Scandal Takes the Stage.’

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Spend time in a villa or castle in Tuscany.

Best thing about being an Aussie?
Our freedom. And the great food and wine.

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
I recently saw Taylor Swift in concert in Sydney and one of the lines in her beautiful song, ‘You Are In Love’, is – And you understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars, and why I’ve spent my whole life trying to put it into words. That last line particularly resonated with me as an author – I love putting ‘love’ into words albeit in novel form. And I think that’s why readers love the romance genre too. Love stories are heartbreaking and uplifting and the ultimate emotional ride. More readers should try them!

What have you got in store for your readers in 2016?
I’m absolutely thrilled to have a Scottish Jacobite Rebellion novel, ‘The Master of Strathburn’ (proposed title) coming out with Escape Publishing in 2016. I also have plans to self-publish another erotic Regency novella mid-year, and to write at least one more full-length novel. I’ve recently submitted another Regency romance to several publishers so we’ll see what happens. I plan to have a very busy writing year!

What were your big achievements of 2015?
Self-publishing 3 novellas and a full-length novel, receiving an offer of publication from Escape Publishing, and hitting best-seller status in Historical/Regency romance in the Amazon US store with the release of ‘Mistletoe, Marriage, & Mayhem’! Super exciting!

All She Wants for Christmas
Amy Rose Bennett

A frosty bluestocking and a hot-blooded rake. A stolen kiss and a Yuletide wedding. Sparks fly, but will hearts melt this Christmas?

When confirmed bluestocking, Tessa Penrose, is thoroughly compromised at a Yuletide ball by Jasper, the Earl of Arlington, she is none too pleased to have to marry him. But not only her reputation is at stake. Can Tessa trust this disreputable rogue with a secret she will do anything to hide?

One thing is certain: she dare not trust her husband with her heart.
