AUSSIE MONTH with Demelza Carlton

Describe yourself in one word:
Trouble 😀

Tell us about The Rock Star’s Virginity (Romance Island Resort #3):
My latest would be The Rock Star’s Virginity (Romance Island Resort #3), which I’ve just released.

This is about a girl whose fiancé cheated on her at a bachelor party just before the wedding. Instead of saving herself for him, she decides to auction off her virginity online to the highest bidder.

The highest bidder…is a rock star who’s looking for a fresh start after the police arrested his previous partner.

It was a lot of fun to write, because on the one hand, there’s Jay the rock star with his fairly flexible morality, and on the other, there’s Flavia, who’s hugely conflicted about the whole auction thing. Then they get stranded on an island with a camera crew and the disapproving hotel manager…it’s a recipe for disaster. Yet it is a romance.

What inspired this novel?
The whole Romance Island Resort series came out of my Nightmares Trilogy. Basically, what would a young, up-and-coming rock star do when his band breaks up at the pinnacle of their fame? He’s rich and in his twenties, so he buys an exclusive resort in paradise. But he has trouble adjusting to normal life and he’s got it into his head that he needs…not just a partner for the night, but a wife. And the best way to learn about happily-ever-afters is by reading the contents of the resort library – most of which are romance books left behind by guests.

Of course, because he’s not a typical romance hero, he’s not always as successful as the books’ heroes when it comes to his methods. Jay is still very much an Aussie bloke.

Each book ends happily, but each story is also only a happily-for-now ending, because Jay doesn’t get his happily-ever-after until the final book. And it could be any of the heroines who gets to be his perfect match.

What are you reading right now?
Mostly business and marketing books, to be honest. When I’ve been good enough and finished up with those, I have Kendall Talbot’s Double Take and Jenny Schwartz’ Sky Garden on top of my TBR list.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Antarctica. It’s the first and last thing on the list – there’s nothing else on it, because I’ve done the rest.

Best thing about being an Aussie?
I’m only allowed to pick one? The food, the wine, the weather, the wildlife…the endless material for books that comes from all of these…

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
Even rock stars read it – for tips on how to get their happily ever after!

What have you got in store for your readers in 2016?
Quite a lot – just like in 2015. The rest of the Romance Island Resort series (and no, I won’t tell you how many books to go, because that would spoil the surprise), which ends with The Rock Star’s Wedding.

My Turbulence and Triumph series is set to finish this year, too. Without giving too many spoilers, let me just say: mermaids in the Indian Ocean during World War II. The Fall of Singapore, the mutiny at Cocos, the conquest of Christmas Island…and the Australian Women’s Army Service on Rottnest Island.

Lucifer will be back, too – with All Hell Breaks Loose. He might get another book this year, too, if he’s lucky.

What were your big achievements of 2015?
Ooh Hell…where do I start?

I published 11 books

I wrote over 280,000 words (and published them)

I finished the Nightmares Trilogy

I won a Watty Award for Maid for the Rock Star (this is from Wattpad and it’s a big thing)

I sold over 200,000 books

I attended my first book signing at Readers and Writers Down Under and had a blast

I survived (actually quite an achievement, seeing as I spent time in hospital in 2015)

Maid for the Rock Star (Romance Island Resort #1)
Demelza Carlton

A maid at the exclusive Romance Island Resort, Audra knows how to handle rock stars, billionaires and celebrities. She keeps their secrets, cleans up their mess and makes sure their holiday is a memorable one. There’s just one rule: no relationships with guests. And Audra never breaks the rules.

Jay Felix is rock royalty and he knows it. When one of his bandmates threatens to break up the band, he goes into hiding at the Romance Island Resort. Looking for a distraction, he sets his sights on the unattainable Audra. But what’s a rock star to do when the girl he wants is the one woman he can’t have?

Welcome to paradise, where the romance is as hot as the weather and the tides aren’t all that’s surging beneath the surface.
