AUSSIE MONTH with Allison Butler

Describe yourself in one word:
Bubbly.

Tell us about The Protector:
The Protector was released on December 8th 2015. It’s book 1 in my new Highland Brides series, about three Lowland warriors from my Borderland Brides series, who travel to the Highlands in search of their origins. The Protector is Duff and Mairi’s story about a quest, a choice and a powerful attraction that threatens Mairi’s unwavering sense of duty and Duff’s unshakable honour.

What inspired this novel?
When I wrote The Healer and The Thief, three secondary characters came to life – Duff, Adair and Callum. Duff is dark and quiet and more serious than the other two and I couldn’t wait to see where his adventures took him – and me. The Protector is Duff’s story.

What are you reading right now?
I’m between books at the moment and am busy writing. But my TBR pile is enormous.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Go to Vietnam. And we’re going this month! We were supposed to go for our 25th wedding anniversary but ended up travelling to beautiful New Zealand. So excited!

Best thing about being an Aussie?
The people, the weather, the countryside, the cities, the scenery and the wildlife. Everything – except the spiders.

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
The romance genre is beautiful, inspiring and honest and always promises a Happily Ever After.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2016?
I’m hoping by the time this goes live, I’ll have almost finished writing book 2 in my Highland Brides series. It will be released in 2016. Yay! Not sure when book 3 will be released just yet.

What were your big achievements of 2015?
On a personal level, 2015 has been a fabulously huge year. We celebrated our gorgeous granddaughter’s 1st birthday. Did I mention we bought her a castle? Ok, it was a jumping castle, but a castle is a castle. Our youngest daughter finally married her childhood sweetheart. An amazing day that included my man wearing his kilt – yum – and a beautiful handfasting ceremony. My hero and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary (Pearl) and are off to Phu Quoc – the Pearl of Vietnam. I’m one lucky woman. And we survived 10 nights in Vegas, including indoor skydiving – the closest I’ll ever come to jumping out of a plane.

On a writing level, I was thrilled Escape Publishing rereleased The Thief as book 2 in my Borderland Brides series, precisely where it was meant to be. And finally, I am stoked with the recent release of THE PROTECTOR, book 1 in my Highland Bride series. 2015 has been an Awesome year!

Heiress of clan Gordon, Mairi has been given a gift: the choice of her husband. Her father has found three worthy suitors and each is coming to the Keep. She will spend time with every man and make her decision. But love is not a luxury Mairi allows herself: she is driven by duty, driven by the memory of the failure eleven years earlier that cost her father everything. She will choose a worthy husband, one who will serve the clan wisely, and take nothing for herself – especially not the dark-haired stranger tasked with her protection while she makes her decision.

Lowlander Duff may not know his origins, but he knows how to wield his sword. Granted one year’s leave from his duties to the Elliot Clan, Duff travels to the Highlands in search of his past. Instead he finds an arrogant beauty in need of rescue. Impressing her father, the head of clan Gordon, he is named her temporary protector and must keep her safe as she is courted by three potential husbands. What Duff doesn’t expect is the low hum of jealousy and the rising wave of attraction that makes protecting Mairi easy, but keeping his distance impossible.
