AUSSIE MONTH with Emily Madden

Describe yourself in one word:
Passionate

Tell us about Summers with Juliette:
Summers with Juliette is a story about love, life and friendship. A story about how sometimes facing the past is the best way to face the future.

What inspired this novel?
Strong female friendships – how the bonds we make as children are sometimes the most strongest, resilient of all. But also the impact that cancer has – not only on the life of those suffering with the disease, but on those around (friends and family). For this I drew on personal experience and I’m sure there are many readers with their own cancer stories and experiences.

What are you reading right now?
Nuts by Alice Clayton. Love that woman’s work! I also just bought the latest Nora Roberts – Stars of Fortune.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Run the NYC Marathon. Yep – a big one, especially since I’m not really a runner. But I love New York and I need something big to mark turning 40 in a couple of years. Plus I’ve already told my trainer – I don’t think there’s much chance of pulling out of it now!

Best thing about being an Aussie?
Our way of life – there is nothing like it anywhere in the world! And our coffee. We seriously rock it when it comes to coffee. It’s on my top five of things I miss when I’m travelling.

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
As a writing community – we are an extremely supportive bunch. We celebrate success together but we also are there for one another when the road is bumpy. As for writing romance – it seriously is the best job in the world. Sitting down every day and immersing yourself in a world that you have created –forming and getting to know characters, following them on their journey to happily ever after (or at least happy for now) is a feeling like no other.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2016?
The release of Summers With Juliette in January and (fingers crossed) another contemporary romance!

What were your big achievements of 2015?
Shaping Summers With Juliette and scoring a publishing deal.

Summers with Juliette
Emily Madden

No matter where, no matter when, no matter what.

Almost twenty years ago, on a beautiful coastal cliff, Juliette Cole, Anna Kendall and Sera Di Maggio linked pinkies and made a vow to be there for each other no matter what might happen in their lives.

Now Juliette is calling in the promise — terminally ill, she wants her two friends to come back to Ellesmere to help her through her last summer. The trouble is Anna and Sera haven’t spoken in years, and Anna hasn’t returned home since she and her mother were run out of town in disgrace.

But Anna and Sera do have one thing in common: they want Juliette to fight her cancer by any means possible. When they realise the only way may be to find a man called Noah, they reluctantly agree to put aside their differences and search for him.

But, as Anna and Sera discover, sometimes facing the past is the best way to face the future, and perhaps the only way they will find the strength for their last summer with Juliette.
