AUSSIE MONTH with Vanda Vadas

Describe yourself in one word:
Cheerful

Tell us about The Pirate Lord:
The Pirate Lord is my debut novel. It’s set in 18th Century England and the Caribbean. Think Lords, Ladies, deceit, betrayal, tragedy, revenge, forgiveness, healing, and love and adventure on and off the high seas.

What inspired this novel?
In my early childhood I developed an appreciation of people, places and events of the past. Throw a penchant for pirate history in the mix and a cruise around the Caribbean islands and THE PIRATE LORD evolved.

What are you reading right now?
The Dark Mile by D K Broster, first published in 1929. It’s ‘a love story set in the soft mountains and glens of Scotland.’

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
One place I’d like to visit is Hotel Kakslauttanen in Finland. There you can sleep beneath the stars in a glass igloo and admire the northern lights. That, I’m sure, would be an unusual and unforgettable experience.

Best thing about being an Aussie?
Living among people who are friendly and easy going. Our beautiful country is so diverse with its golden-sand beaches, lush tropical rainforests, rugged bushland and snowy mountains. We really do have it all.

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
The romance genre offers readers the opportunity to discover the emotional plight of a book’s central characters. Readers might well relate to those characters and identify with the complexities of what we all experience: Relationships! Personally, I endeavour to deliver to readers a memorable love story with characters who will stay in their heart long after they’ve read the last word.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2016?
I’m currently writing a Scottish historical set post The Battle of Culloden (1746). I absolutely love doing research so after having twice visited Scotland I’m armed with fascinating knowledge to breathe intriguing scandal into the lives and love of my fictitious characters, Annabel and Roderick!

What were your big achievements of 2015?
Receiving offers from three of the Big Five publishing houses to publish my first book, The Pirate Lord! Penguin Random House launching the ebook on June 1, 2015. Celebrating and sharing that joy with my family, friends and critique group (the HOGs), and receiving my First Sale ribbon at the RWAustralia conference in Melbourne!

Can love for his beautiful, aristocratic captive rescue Miles from his lust for revenge?

A family tragedy steeped in deceit and betrayal saw Lady Eloise Blakely vow never to fall victim to a man’s charms, let alone invite him into her bed. Until fate swept her aboard a pirate’s ship and into its captain’s embrace.

Yet when he reveals a dark secret, her lover becomes her enemy…

Ten years ago, Miles Zachary Fenton was framed for murder. For so long he has fought to clear his name and reclaim his dukedom. Now, when both appear to be just within reach, he is forced to abduct a meddling beauty, one who wreaks havoc with his emotions and complicates his plans.
