AUSSIE MONTH with Peta Crake
AUSSIE MONTH with Peta Crake
Describe yourself in one word:
Calm-ish
Tell us about your latest novel:
Defiance, is the last Ophelia Lind book. The three book series is about an Aussie girl based in Perth, Western Australia, who is a courier for the gods. In this book she finally comes into her own by defying expectations, defying the odds and defying the gods that try to control her.
What inspired this novel?
Other than the first two books, Harbinger and Sacrifice, the biggest inspiration was how we often let secrets control our thoughts and actions.
What are you reading right now?
Currently, I am reading Ilona Andrews’ latest Kate Daniels book, Magic Shifts. Next up I think will be Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and the Aurora series by Amanda Bridgeman.
Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Go to Iceland. I am not sure why, it is just one of those places I have always wanted to go. It has equal footing with the desire to go to Alaska to see Polar Bears in the wild.
Best thing about being an Aussie?
Hmmmm. Hard to pick just one. Cherry Ripes. The smell of lemon-scented gum trees. Slang. Being able to say “I broke my thong” without anyone thinking I am talking about underwear. A summer Christmas.
What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
While most romance readers already know this, I wish everyone would recognize how incredibly wide and varied the genre is. From paranormal to suspense to historical, there is honestly something for everyone contained within the broad umbrella of romance. Sometimes it is good to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. You might be surprised.
What have you got in store for your readers in 2016?
Hopefully a romance novella trilogy set around three brothers who live and work in a paranormal circus. I also have an urban fantasy novel set in Japan, about a girl who used to be a cat (she is a Japanese mythological creature called a bakeneko) which I am hoping to release out into the world soon.
What were your big achievements of 2015?
Finishing the Ophelia Lind Series. Discovering a writing method that suits me.
Defiance (Ophelia Lind Book 3)
Peta Crake
Ophelia Lind is used to keeping secrets. But right now, they’re ruining her life. Her secret identity is making her miserable. The secret protecting the love of her life is getting harder to keep. And her father is about to discover that she’s the daughter he never knew he had.
When Hermes asks her to deliver one last message, she grudgingly accepts. It’s almost a welcome distraction. Until everything goes cockeyed, the gods start disappearing and the Harbinger gets the blame.
With the gods on the brink of war, only Phi can uncover the truth in time. But when everyone she cares about turns against her, Phi’s about to discover that some secrets shouldn’t be kept. Because there’s always something left to lose…
