AUSSIE MONTH with J L Perry

Describe yourself in one word:
Determined

What is your background with regard to writing?
I am only a new Author, but have release three full length novels this year. My first book My Destiny was published in June, 2014. My Second book My Forever was published in August and Damaged – Jacinta’s Story was published in October.

Tell us about Damaged – Jacinta’s Story and what inspired the novel:
Damaged is about a 13 year old girl named Jacinta, who appears briefly in my second book, My Forever. Jacinta, along with her mother, live a life of physical abused at the hands of her father, until that are saved and relocated to Melbourne to start their lives over.

Damaged it’s set 7 years later, so she is now 20 years old. I had no intentions of writing a book about her, but when I finished My Forever, I felt compelled to tell her story. It is a beautiful love story about two damaged souls coming together to heal each other. It centres on the real effects, trust issues and scars left behind by domestic violence. I was a hard book to write, but I feel it is my best work to date. I’m so happy with the way it turned out.

What are you reading right now?
Honestly, I haven’t read a book since I released my first book back in June. I really miss it, like you wouldn’t believe. I guess publishing three full length novels in three months, as well as writing my 4th and 5th, doesn’t leave much time for reading. I do have around 200 unread books on my iPad, that I’ve purchase over the past few months. When I get a chance, I’m going on a reading frenzy.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Sky diving. I’ve wanted to do this for as long as I can remember.

Best thing about being an Aussie?
I love everything about being an Aussie. The people, culture, food, weather, but most of all the laid back lifestyle. I’ve been fortunate to travel the world, and found in most countries, people aren’t as friendly as Australians.

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
They are not all smut, as I’ve heard them referred to a number of times in the past. There are some beautiful and heart wrenching stories out there. Some are funny, some are sad, and some are real eye openers, but there are also some that teach you important and valuable life lessons. I read a lot of genres, but romance is by far my favourite. I love the diversity and there is something to suit everyone’s taste. I’m also a sucker for an HEA.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
I’m writing my 4th and 5th Romance Novels at the moment. I hope to have them both published early next year. I also have plans to do a 6th book. Something new, away from the Destiny Series. I’d also like to write a Christmas book with all my character from the Destiny Series, and release it late 2015.

What were your big achievements of 2014?
Publishing my first three books would have to be at the top of my list. My Debut made it into the top 100 in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, which was a huge achievement for me. I also won the AusRom Today Readers Choice Best New Author 2014 category, which was huge honour. My Destiny was also nominated as Best Debut for 2014, in a number of other blogs.

Damaged – Jacinta’s Story
J L Perry

Jacinta’s story takes place seven years after the day Brooke and Logan Cavanagh saved her from the violent clutches of her father.  Her mother has now remarried and Jacinta has a new step-brother, Connor, whom she adores.

Jacinta
After Jacinta’s step-brother Connor moves to Sydney, she decides to move back there to live with him.

She’s still so damaged from her violent past that, at twenty years of age, she has never had a serious boyfriend, and is still a virgin. So her best friend, Cassie, convinces her to have a one-night-stand with a stranger before her twenty-first birthday.

The next day, Jacinta is surprised to find she’s actually upset that she will never see him again, but would not take back the memories of that night for anything. She also feels that she is way too damaged to ever have a serious relationship anyway.

Unbeknownst to her, their paths will cross again. Will the attraction she felt that night still be there? Or will she regret it ever happened?

Mason
Mason doesn’t do relationships…ever. He has sex with random women, often. When he meets Jacinta though, things change. He finds there’s a deep connection between them that he just can’t explain.

When she does something that not only leaves him feeling crushed, but extremely pissed, he is left feeling lost. He doesn’t even know her real name and has no way of finding her.

But when fate brings them together again, will he be able to forgive her for what she did? Or will he forget about that one night they spent together and go back to his playboy ways?

  1. I think it really brilliant that you were able to write and have published three novels in one year; and that you are working on two more novels.

It must be the love of writing that gives inspiration – I can certainly relate to that.

Congratulations on your successes and may there be many more.

Reading this certainly would inspire writers and give them the determination needed to get those books completed. It certainly has inspired me :o)
