SPOTLIGHT ON… Historical Romance: Ella Quinn

Ella Quinn
Ella Quinn
Describe yourself in one word:
Driven
What is your background with regard to writing?
LOL, other than technical articles, none.
When did you first begin writing with a view of embarking on a career as a published author?
I did. I am very goal oriented, and, to me, success meant being published.
What is your writing routine?
I have to get my social media stuff done first. Then I write
Favourite snack whilst writing?
I don’t normally snack, but when I do, it’s carrots and hummus.
If you weren’t writing, what would you be doing?
I can’t imagine doing anything else at this point in my life.
What piqued your interest in the historical romance genre?
I’ve been reading historical romance, fiction, and nonfiction for around 50 years. However, I didn’t want to write it until my first character, Lady Phoebe Stanhope, needed me to write her story.
Can you share with our readers one piece of historical information that has special meaning to you?
The during the Regency, women actually could have a great deal more control over their fortunes and lives than most people think.
One thing you’d like readers to know about the historical romance genre:
Most historical romance writers are just as concerned about getting the facts right as historical fiction writers are. I have not yet met an historical romance author who doesn’t have at least a BA. Many of them have advanced degrees. This translates into smart romance.
The one book that you’ve read over and over is…
Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer.
Favourite fictional character:
That’s a hard one. Probably Venetia. Another Georgette Heyer character.
Number one thing to do on your bucket list:
Make the New York Times Bestseller list.
What book has changed your opinion/stance on something important to you, and why?
I don’t think I’ve ever read one book that did that. Or if I did, it was so long ago that I don’t remember it anymore.
Biggest accomplishment to date:
I’d love to say getting published, but really, raising a son who is a wonderful father, husband and human being.
What’s next for you?
More books. I’m working on book #6 of The Marriage Game.

Oh, I agree, Ella. For a writer, success definitely means being published. But as an indie author, I’d take it one step further. For me, success means holding an honest to goodness physical copy of my published paperback in my own hot little hands. That hasn’t happened yet (waiting on cover details to be finalized), but when it does, then I will feel like a real, published author.
I’m waiting with bated breath for November 7 and The Secret Life of Miss Anna Marsh!
I love how we all have different paths, yet we help each other get there. Thanks for stopping by Mairi!!
