AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Helen Lacey

Describe yourself in one word:
Stubborn

What is your background with regard to writing?
I’m currently writing my seventh book for Harlequin Special Edition and hope to write many more.

When did you first begin writing with a view of embarking on a career as a published author?
I’ve been writing since I was seven years old and wrote eighteen rejected manuscripts for Harlequin Mills & Boon before I got The Call in 2010.

Tell us a little more about Once Upon A Bride:
It’s a love story…it’s about two people who find you can’t fight chemistry no matter how much you want to.  Gabe and Lauren have both had it tough for the past couple of years, and they learn how to heal from one another.

Once Upon A Bride features the central character Gabe Vitali embarking on a fresh start in Australia, with a revised five-year plan that excludes serious relationships and Lauren Jakowski who is actively looking for marriage and a happily-ever-after. Talk about a clash of interests! What sparked this concept for you?
I wanted to see how two people with very different personal goals, but with a very intense physical attraction, would react to one another.  And I just love torturing my heroes!

What one character trait will most endear both Gabe and Lauren to your readers?
They both have a ton of integrity

One thing you’d like readers to know about the romance genre…
It rocks! It’s feels good to read a romance novel. At the core they are about real people enduring real life conflicts with a little Cinderella thrown in J

If you weren’t writing, what would you be doing?
I’d like to imagine I was an Olympic level Equestrian or a singer….

What’s next for you?
To keep writing. I love writing for Harlequin Special Edition.  And to finish my Single Title book. And to always improve my craft.

Ten Quickies:

Favourite snack whilst writing?
Cashews.

What advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
Don’t get that Flock Of Seagulls haircut.

What do you find easiest to write? And, the hardest?
I never find writing hard. I love it!

Favourite travel experience?
Cruising Halong Bay in Vietnam with my husband.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list:
An African safari

Milk, dark or white chocolate? White!

Red, white, bubbly? Bubbles.

Salty or sweet? Hmmm….sweet.

Beach or mountains? Can I say both?

Give or receive? Giving. Unless I’m getting something awesome….like a new puppy.

About the Author:

Helen Lacey grew up reading Black Beauty, Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie. These childhood classics inspired her to write her first book when she was seven years old, a story about a girl and her horse. Her parents’ love of travel meant she saw much of the world in those early years and she feels fortunate to have had a diverse and interesting education over several continents. She continued to write with the dream of one day being published, and becoming a Harlequin Special Edition author is the realization of that dream. She loves writing about tortured heroes—both cowboys and CEOs—and heroines with gumption who finally get their men.
From Welsh parents and a large family, Helen lives on the east coast of Australia in a small seaside town at the southernmost point of the Great Barrier Reef; she lives with her wonderfully supportive husband, many horses and three spoiled dogs.

Happily ever after…?

When Gabe Vitali escapes to a fresh start in Crystal Point, Australia, the former physician isn’t looking for a storybook ending. For the first time he’s living in the moment. His new five-year plan does not include serious relationships. But he doesn’t anticipate his unavoidable next-door neighbor…and an undeniable attraction.

Bridal consultant Lauren Jakowski wants marriage. She’s just sworn off love and sex! To avoid getting burned again, she’s looking for safe and forever-after. But they’re not Gabe’s to give–for reasons he can’t share with anyone, least of all this pretty complication.

Gabe and Lauren don’t figure on a fairy tale. But fate has other plans….
