SPOTLIGHT ON… Escape Publishing: Beth Fred

Beth Fred
Describe yourself in one word:
Persistent
What is your background with regard to writing?
I’m a law school drop out. I didn’t get really serious about my writing until I read Twilight. That’s when I fell in love with YA romance too.
When did you first begin writing with a view of embarking on a career as a published author?
2010
What is your writing routine?
It changes with life, but right now I get up at 5:30 a.m. to get something done before my baby wakes up. Then I steal time throughout the day.
Favourite snack whilst writing?
Chocolate.
If you weren’t writing, what would you be doing?
Reading or sleeping
One thing you’d like readers to know about the romance genre:
There is often more to it than just a happily ever after. Relationships are how we learn about ourselves and human nature. Why would fiction be any different?
The one book that you’ve read over and over is…
Twilight.
Favourite fictional character:
Edward Cullen. Are you seeing a pattern here?
Number one thing to do on your bucket list:
Be a NYT bestseller
What book has changed your opinion/stance on something important to you, and why?
I don’t know that this has happened.
Biggest accomplishment to date:
I would say my daughter, but I don’t like considering her an accomplishment. She’s her own person. I guess getting an agent.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on a novel about a girl who falls in the one boy she shouldn’t. But I have big plans for more controversy + romance = YA very soon 😉
If you could offer just one piece of advice to aspiring authors, what would it be?
Treat your writing like it’s a business you’ve opened. Make a plan and plug away at it. And remember small businesses usually take 3-5 years to see a profit. Know you’ll need at least that.

Thank you for this.
