Téa Cooper

Describe yourself in one word:
No! I can’t. I need at least three!! Introverted, gregarious and contradictory.
What is your background with regard to writing?
In a previous life I was a journalist – then I got sidetracked. I finally got to do what I wanted to do when I “retired”.
When did you first begin writing with a view of embarking on a career as a published author?
As an author in 2011. I threw my hat into the New Voices ring.
What is your writing routine?
I have the delightful pleasure of being able to write whenever I want to, so I do!
Favourite snack whilst writing?
None! (Are you impressed?)
If you weren’t writing, what would you be doing?
Playing in my garden, bush walking with Poppy, the Rotweiller or lurking in Wollombi Museum.
What piqued your interest in the historical romance genre?
A love of history and Wollombi Museum.
Can you share with our readers one piece of historical information that has special meaning to you?
The past is the key to the future (That’s not very original but I truly believe it!)
The one book that you’ve read over and over is…
Carve Her Name with Pride
Favourite fictional character:
Miss Fisher (currently)
Number one thing to do on your bucket list:
Have a historical romance novel published – that’s been ticked so travel to Bhutan legally (I’ve done it illegally but I missed a lot!)
What book has changed your opinion/stance on something important to you, and why?
The Journal of Rev. John Frederick Richardson Whinfield, the first Anglican Minister in Wollombi. It covers most of the period from 1849 to 1859 and has been the most wonderful resource and insight into early Australian life.
Biggest accomplishment to date:
My daughter.
What’s next for you?
It’s in the lap of the gods!
Matilda’s Freedom
Tea Cooper
An unconventional woman clashes with colonial society in this spicy and sweet Australian-set historical romance.
His carefree bachelor days over, Christopher Matcham returns to Sydney to take responsibility for his mother, two stepsisters, and the family property. Fortune smiles on him when he is introduced to Matilda Sweet, a woman in need of work. Though unusual, Christopher senses that her fresh ideals and positive outlook can only benefit his sisters, so he hires her as a companion.
By the time they arrive at Christopher’s family home, the two are fast friends. But Matilda’s unorthodox ways and her convict heritage make her a second class citizen to the family. Christopher has responsibilities, and they include an advantageous match. A breeches-wearing, fish-pond-swimming, plain-talking convict’s daughter will never figure in. After all, romance is a luxury the upper classes cannot afford…
