WIP Me Inspired
Amber A Bardan
Thank you so much for allowing me to visit and discuss my books, especially my current WIP For His Protection the second book in my Personal Protection Series, which has been an emotionally cathartic journey to write.
Inspiration came easy with the first book in the series, For Her Protection. I am attracted to gritty blue collar heroes, and the bodyguard troupe gave me the perfect license to experiment with protective alpha heroes and strong women, without the trappings that come with entitled billionaires. Not that I don’t love me a good billionaire story, I certainly do, but in this instance I wanted something deeper and more tangible. However, the second book was much more of a challenge. I was inspired by a character in the first book, Brooke, who although had been the victim of a horrific crime had not only come out the other side strong enough to protect herself but also to protect other people in her job as a bodyguard—including men.
I couldn’t get this strong beautiful but emotionally damaged woman out of my head, but what to do with her? Placing Brooke as the bodyguard in the scenario ran the risk of emasculating the hero, especially since I knew that this woman would require some form of sexual dominance. My biggest bug-bear is stories that use the traumatic past of their heroines purely for titillation, and fail to honor the seriousness of the situation by having the formally traumatized heroine instantly dissolve into an uninhibited porn star the moment she catches a whiff of the hero’s magic pheromones. I couldn’t do that, and I knew Brooke would never be a whiney victim.
True inspiration hit when the hero of the story popped into my head. What would happen if the hero were also strong and successful but also devilish and cheeky, but most of all what if he had a past with the heroine so powerful he would do anything—give up anything—for a chance with her. Then came Tye, and with him everything fell into place.
Writing this story taught me so much about myself and about writing. I taught me how any situation can be handled with sensitivity and respect, how stereotypes can be turned on their head, and most of all how relationships constantly evolve and can come full circle.
I certainly hope my readers will get as much from reading it as I got from writing it.
In the mean time the first book in my series, For Her Protection will be released on May 30th. Here’s a little about it;

You shouldn’t mix business with pleasure.
Yet pleasure seems to be the one and only thing on Charlize’s mind the moment Connor steamrolls into her life. Desperate to save her family company, prove she’s more than a pretty face and worthy of being CEO, pleasure is a distraction she can’t afford.
She doesn’t want a bodyguard, especially not one whose caveman heroics kick her libido into hyperdrive. But surrounded by enemies and an attacker on the loose, there’s only one man she can trust with her life.
Connor knows better than to get personal with clients. Yet there couldn’t be anything more personal about his feelings for Charlize. From the moment he clapped eyes on her he wanted nothing more than to throw her over his shoulder and really give her something to scream about. He’ll get his uptight she-cat to unwind, preferably one orgasm at a time.
With Connor in her office, her home, driving her to sweet, merciless distraction, there’s only so long Charlize can resist his sexy, dominant brand of protection.
Her lips pulled to the side and she nodded. “I was thinking that myself. I’m the CEO and I’m pretty sure my eight-year-old cousin could hack my computer.” She glanced up at him. “So how much would all this cost us?”
“I’ll put together a proposal.”
“Thanks that would be helpful.” Her features softened.
His thoughts scattered again. Charlize all accessible really did send him Neanderthal. Just wanted to get her back over his shoulder but this time—
Damn, better when she hisses.
“There’s one more thing. I heard there was some kind of attempted attack on you today?”
She snorted. “I wouldn’t call getting smacked upside the back of the head with a rock ‘attempted’ but—”
“What, you were actually hit?” His muscles contracted and he stalked toward her. “Were you hurt?”
She blinked, leaning farther back onto the desk. “I got a bump that’s all.”
“That’s not acceptable. It won’t happen again. I’m placing you under personal protection until further notice.”
Charlize leaped up to stand straight, bringing her body flush with his. “You’re what? You can’t place me under your anything.”
He bent closer, tipping her chin with his finger. “I can. From now on you’ll have twenty-four-hour protection.”
Charlize jerked her chin away, her gaze narrowing. She studied him then her eyes widened again. “Oh I get it. And who protects me? You, Connor?”
She placed her palm on his chest and her touch branded him right through his shirt.
“Will you be protecting me 24/7?” Her hand ran to his shoulder and a half-smile teased the corners of her lips. “Let me guess, you’ll be with me night and day. Giving me your personal protection. Hell, I guess you’ll have to watch me sleep, watch me in the shower…”
A lump moved in his throat and raging breath blew out his nose.
“Is that right, Connor? Will you protect me so closely you’ll practically be inside me?”
A low growl rumbled in his throat and his hand covered hers, pressing it deeper against the fabric of his shirt as if her skin could dissolve the material.
“Yeah I thought so.” Her self-satisfied smile fizzled out as she met his gaze.
She’d played him but it looked as if she’d just figured this frying pan was a little too deep to crawl out of.
After spending years imagining fictional adventures, Amber finally found a way to turn daydreaming into a productive habit. She now spends her days as a graphic designer but her nights writing sizzling tales about heroes with tough exteriors who are warm inside.
She lives with her husband and children in semi-rural Australia, where if she peers outside at the right moment she might just see a kangaroo bounce by.
