Describe yourself in one word:

What is your background with regard to writing?
I’ve always loved making up stories and have great memories of writing short, illustrated books in school, then poems as a teenager, and finally novels as an adult. I’ve also written non-fiction.

When did you first begin writing with a view of embarking on a career as a published author?
I started writing fiction seriously about five years ago and caught the bug. At first I just wanted to see if I could write a complete novel, if only for myself and a few select friends and family, but I soon realised I loved it and wanted it to become a career.

Tell us a little more about Haunted Ever After:
In a nutshell, Haunted Ever After is about a bride-to-be who is haunted by the ghost of her fiancé’s ex-girlfriend. It’s a Bridesmaids meets Magic Mike story with a ghost tossed into the mix. But apart from all the wacky fun, it’s also an emotional and romantic story about friendship, going above and beyond to help others, and facing the truth.

Haunted Ever After features the central character Sally, meeting Red, the ghost of her fiance’s ex-girlfriend. Rather than being completely awkward and horrifying, you weave the two characters and their journeys together seamlessly and by the end we just want a happily-ever after for them both. What sparked this concept for you?
Thank you. I was originally going to call this story Haunted Housewives as it was about a group of married women who go on a hen’s weekend together when the last one in their group of friends gets engaged. The concept was triggered by the idea that what if while on this hen’s weekend, an uninvited guest tagged along? And then as I like to add a touch of magic to my romantic comedies, I decided a ghost would be the perfect addition. But not just any ghost, her fiance’s ex, so there’d be plenty of conflict.

What one character trait will most endear both Sally and Red to your readers?
Sally: her desire to help others.
Red: her enthusiasm (and singing/dancing ability, or inability). 😉

In just a few short years, you’ve taken the Australian romantic-comedy genre by storm. Where do you find the inspiration (and humour) to keep coming up with fresh, fun and flirtatious stories?
Thank you! I find inspiration everywhere on a daily basis. My mind is wide open to new ideas, and the more I accept the ideas that come to me the more I seem to get. Inspiration can come from something as simple as a conversation, something I see or notice around town, watching movies, or even from a dream. The humour often comes to me from my own daily challenges! I try to stretch the imagination just that little bit further to see what funny, embarrassing, or awkward things could happen to my character in a particular situation.

One thing you’d like readers to know about the romance genre…
It’s more than heaving bosoms and shirtless, Fabio-esque men! Romance is so diverse nowadays. You could be reading one and not even realise it!

If you weren’t writing, what would you be doing?
As a career? I’d probably still be working in the natural health field. As for when I’m not writing in general, it usually means I’m daydreaming, or procrastinating by chatting with friends on facebook. J

What’s next for you?
Now that Haunted Ever After is released, I’ll be getting ready for my next release in December, a Christmas novella called 12 Daves of Christmas. It’s another magical romantic comedy with a ghost. Following that will be Miracle in March releasing in March 2015, the 3rd in my Tarrin’s Bay series which I’m currently writing! I’m also working on something a little different; a brand new women’s fiction project with a mystery in it, which I’m hoping will find a good home. It’s about starting over and following your dreams, 1920’s Hollywood scandal, and sparkly vintage handbags.

Ten Quickies:

Favourite snack whilst writing?
I don’t usually eat while writing, but if I’m working at a café it would be a soy hot chocolate and a gluten free treat!

What advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
Be yourself.

What do you find easiest to write? And, the hardest?
Easiest: comedic scenes.
Hardest: Kissing scenes! Each one has to be unique and I worry they will sound the same.

Favourite travel experience?
I haven’t travelled much (yet), so I will just say that my favourite experience is going to the RWA conference each year!

Number one thing to do on your bucket list:
Ooh that’s hard. Some things are up to fate (like getting a movie deal), but one thing I keep thinking I want to do is learn the iconic dance scene from Dirty Dancing (complete with gorgeous dance instructor).

Milk, dark or white chocolate? Milk. But I should say dark.

Red, white, bubbly? Cocktails. 😉

Salty or sweet? Salty.

Beach or mountains? Beach.

Give or receive? Give and you WILL receive. 🙂

About the Author:
Juliet Madison is a naturopath-turned-author with a background in dance, art, internet marketing, and perfume sales (yes, she was one of those annoying people in department stores who spray you with perfume). Nowadays she prefers to indulge her propensity for multiple careers by living vicariously through her characters. She likes to put these characters into extraordinary situations and take them on a challenging journey to discover their true passion and inner strength, weaving in some laughs, tears, romance, and sometimes a touch of magic along the way. Living near the beach on the beautiful south coast of New South Wales, Australia, Juliet spends as much time as possible writing and coming up with new ideas, while doing her best to avoid housework.

Juliet Madison

Mixing romance, humour and a sparkle of magic, Juliet Madison is back with a new full-length novel about a bride-to-be, a mystery and the stripper next door.

When bride-to-be Sally Marsh attends a weekend away with her bridesmaids, the last thing she expects is an uninvited guest: the ghost of her fiancé’s ex-girlfriend.

Red is quirky, loud and distracting, and Sally is soon desperate to find the reason behind her presence, so she can rid herself of her embarrassing shadow before the wedding day. Unfortunately, the ghost is reluctant to share the reason for her existence, but very enthusiastic about Ty, the surprise hen’s night stripper who keeps showing up at awkward moments.

Time is running out for Sally, but it’s also running out for Red. By the time all is revealed, Sally will be tested to the limits, and go above and beyond everything she’s ever believed in order to ensure not only her own happy-ever-after – but Red’s as well.
