AUSSIE MONTH with V.K. Black
Describe yourself in one word:
What is your background with regard to writing?
None, really, other than being good at English at school. Some excruciating poetry in my early twenties due to ratfink boyfriends. Then one day, I decided to become a romance writer with a sexy edge, and promptly submitted my masterpieces. Rejections came back with astonishing speed. I investigated the craft of writing. I’m still learning of course, as is any writer, but my submissions are starting to be accepted now.
Tell us about Unexpected Places:
It’s a fun, sexy romance, where the bad boy hero battles the sweet, hot-tempered heroine for possession of a treasure map and priceless emeralds.
What inspired this novel?
The inspiration came from pictures out of a magazine, chiefly a pair of emerald earrings. But I love treasure hunting stories and I love romances where the hero and heroine are opponents. The story flowed.
What are you reading right now?
The Seek by Ros Baxter
Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Stay on Heron Island (an island resort on the Barrier Reef) and go snorkeling every day.
Best thing about being an Aussie?
So many beautiful places to visit, all a car drive, or a short…well, okay, if I’m flying to Western Australia…or long plane flight away.
What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
Romance is everywhere, folks. Books, movies, T.V. shows that purport to be thrillers or crime investigations or science fiction nearly always sneak in a romance.
What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
A couple of anthologies with other writers, and I’d like to polish up my World War Two Time Travel romance.
What were your big achievements of 2014?
Writing Unexpected Places and having Escape Publishing release it, and achieving my major bucket list item, which was to travel around the United Kingdom.
One treasure map; a pair of priceless emeralds; two very keen hunters — only one can win, but who says that competition can’t be a little fun?
When sweet, pretty Ariana Noonan knocks out treasure hunter Luke Donahue with a champagne bottle and steals his treasure map, he vows to get his map back, find the missing priceless emeralds…and exact a fitting revenge.
When Luke finally discovers Ariana in a dingy hotel on a remote tropical island, she’s in desperate straits and he finally gains the upper hand. Of course he will rescue her. His price? They act on the attraction that’s been simmering between them from the very beginning.
But all is not as it seems, and Luke’s sexy bargain turns up not only an unbelievable secret, but Ariana’s reasons for wanting the emeralds. Suddenly, nothing is clear-cut anymore, and map or no map, Luke and Ariana are sailing into uncharted territory.
