AUSSIE MONTH: Jennifer Lynne
AUSSIE MONTH with Jennifer Lynne
Describe yourself in one word:
Determined.
What is your background with regard to writing?
I have a Degree in Literature and Media Studies, and worked in the corporate world for many years as a business writer & editor. While at university someone dared me to write a Mills & Boon, but of course that first effort was rejected. It did, however, spark an ongoing love of romance writing, and I dabbled in “hobby mode” for many years before finally deciding to submit again – this time to Red Sage Publishing. They bought the rights to Seducing Serena and released the novella in print and digital format in their Secrets (Vol. 28) anthology collection in December 2009. Since then I’ve had another digital release with Red Sage, one with Breathless Press, and embarked on an indie journey with my Gods of Love novellas about the Greek gods of desire seeking love and redemption in a modern-day world.
Tell us about Demon of Envy:
Demon of Envy is the fifth novella in my Gods of Love series, but each of these stories is stand-alone so they can be read in any order. This instalment features Thon, the Greek god of jealousy and envy, and Olivia, a mortal woman fighting inner battles of her own. Is the wayward son of Aphrodite truly a god, or a demon? When Olivia lets this sexy being into her life, will his demon Envy behave, or will it rip her human heart to shreds?
Love Bites and Silk Ties said in their review: “I love this delightfully sexy, amazingly beautiful book. This author has a wonderful way of digging into human emotional states and revealing our inner turmoil and darkness in a way that is liberating…Love love love it.”
What inspired Demon of Envy?
I wanted to look at some of the less savoury aspects of love and consider how someone who embodies negative traits such as jealousy or envy, might ever be able to find a happy-ever-after. These two people – one immortal, one not – have been to Hell and back, and it was a challenge to create a story in which they would both have the opportunity to heal.
What are you reading right now?
I’m currently reading The Witch with No Name by Kim Harrison.
Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Visit Machu Picchu in Peru.
Best thing about being an Aussie?
The feeling that anything is possible – that if you have a dream, you can work hard and it is within your reach to achieve it. Also the sense of “mateship” – that we’re all in this together.
What do you want readers to know about the romance genre?
Romance readers probably know as much as I do about the romance genre! Perhaps just a comment about the difference between erotic romance and erotica. I think the lines sometimes get blurred, both by readers and writers. In my view, erotica focuses on the sex, whereas erotic romance (my sub-genre) focuses on a developing romantic relationship with the possibility of a HEA or at least a happy-for-now ending (albeit with lots of really hot sex along the way!).
What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
I’m currently finalising Ice Queen, the sixth novella in the Gods of Love series, and hoping for a late January or February release. I’ll have the entire Gods of Love series box set available in print late in February, so that will be exciting for those who still don’t read eBooks (my mum, for example!).
I’m also working on a new erotic fetish series, which has been fun (and eye-opening!) to research.
Finally, I’m branching out into some non-erotic writing with a full length series about bridesmaid myths. To differentiate my erotic from non-erotic writing, I now have an alter ego – Jen Katemi. J
What were your big achievements of 2014?
In terms of writing, I released Demon of Envy in May, and participated in a collaborative project with some of my former Red Sage author friends, including USA Today bestselling authors Lisa Carlisle and Roz Lee. Together we released an erotic romance collection in September called Seduction – One Fortune at a Time. My novella from that collection, Heart’s Destiny, was also released as a stand-alone in December (with some additional/expanded scenes). Overall, I feel as if 2014 was more a year of reflection, during which I considered future directions, and I am very excited for the two different streams of writing that Jen Katemi/Jennifer Lynne will be working on in 2015. J
Demon of Envy
Jennifer Lynne
I’m Liv, but my name is deceptive ‘cos I don’t. Live, that is. I used to, until someone I trusted put me in the hospital. Now I’m just a shell, but at least my life is orderly and safe. These days I watch as others live out the dreams I used to have. And I try so hard not to envy them. I was doing well, too…until the demon of Envy turned up on my doorstep and ripped apart my tidy existence.
I am Thon. I am Envy. I hold the petty jealousies and passions of all mortals in my heart. Olivia is desperate for my love, but how can I offer it when the demon inside is screaming ever louder to escape? How can I possibly protect this fragile woman from the grim darkness of my reality?
Oh, Liv. If I love you, I might kill you.
Want to read this one first in the Gods of Love series? Go ahead! Each of these sexy novellas is stand-alone with a common theme and they can be read in any order.

I’ll have to check your books out. I love paranormals!
Hello Tamara, I love reading paranormals as much as writing about them. Do you read Kim Harrison, Ilona Andrews or Kalayna Price? They are some of my favourites 🙂
Hi Jen
Loved the insights into your writing, and good luck with Demon of Envy. It sounds intriguing!
What a challenge to write 🙂
Michelle
Hi Michelle, thank you so much for stopping by! It was a challenge to write a hero who embodies envy, but that’s the fun of writing, isn’t it? My next one in the series, Ice Queen, has a very challenging heroine in Meika, a former killer. It has been a difficult story to get right.
Hi Jen
thanks for the insights into your writing.
Demon of Envy sounds intriguing. What a challenge to write!
Heaps of luck with it.
Michelle
