REVIEW: Natasha Lester’s ‘Her Mother’s Secret’
Her Mother’s Secret
Natasha Lester
Natasha Lester has an enviable ability to make time stand still. Her stories so rich in detail, characters so thoroughly developed you feel as though you’ve known them forever, and research of the setting and era so detailed and vividly presented you’d swear you’re right there.
Her Mother’s Secret is no exception.
Leonora is a wonderful character and whilst there is a love story at its heart, Her Mother’s Secret follows in the vein of A Kiss from Mr Fitzgerald in that the story is about Leonora’s achievements, her tenacious approach to making her mark on the world, and her uncompromising belief that she is the champion of her own story.
Understand though, a Natasha Lester novel is not a suitable place for a bookmark. Once you start prepare to be so enthralled by the story you’ll need to finish it in one sitting.
Lester’s storytelling is truly captivating; her voice an essential addition to Australian fiction.
