SPOTLIGHT ON… Escape Publishing: Juliet Madison

Juliet Madison
Juliet Madison
Describe yourself in one word:
Creative.
What is your background with regard to writing?
I remember writing stories from a young age, and tried to start a mystery/suspense novel about ten years ago, but life got busy and five more years passed until I reached a point and thought, ‘It’s now or never.’ But instead of the mystery, I ended up writing women’s fiction and romantic comedy because I wanted to write something uplifting!
When did you first begin writing with a view of embarking on a career as a published author?
In late 2009 when I started my first novel just to ‘see if I could do it’. By chapter two I was hooked and knew it was a career I wanted. Three years later I got my first contract, with Escape Publishing.
What is your writing routine?
Write as often as I can, as much as I can, as fast as I can, whenever I can!
Favourite snack whilst writing?
None. I don’t eat while I write, it distracts me and makes my keyboard sticky 😉
If you weren’t writing, what would you be doing?
Wondering why the hell I wasn’t writing.
One thing you’d like readers to know about the romance genre:
It’s such a varied genre. There’s contemporary romance, romantic suspense, paranormal, historical, romantic comedy (and now, ‘romagic’ comedy), and many other sub-genres with romance as a significant part of the story. Many people probably read romantic fiction and don’t even realise they’re reading it!
Favourite fictional character:
Drew, the gorgeous singer I created in my latest manuscript!
Number one thing to do on your bucket list:
Make a living as a bestselling author and have a movie made from one or more of my books. (Oh, is that two things?) 😉
Biggest accomplishment to date:
Raising my son on my own. Though, I’m still doing it, it never ends! 😉
What’s next for you?
My third book, Starstruck In Seattle releases on 1st October, followed by The January Wish on 1st January. I’ve recently completed another romantic women’s fiction manuscript and a Young Adult manuscript and hope to get them published! I’m now deciding what my next project will be – I have an overflow of ideas 😉
If you could offer just one piece of advice to aspiring authors, what would it be?
Write the stories that you’re called to write, the ones that keep you up at night and keep popping in your head, rather than trying to write to a trend.
