CREATIVE CONVERSATIONS with the Naughty Ninjas

NN

It’s possible you’ve already heard the hushed whispers, the whirling rumours, and the throat-kicking swagger of the Naughty Ninjas… If not, the next two weeks will be a real eye-opener for you—as I’m welcoming the 8 ninjas (+ 1 grasshopper ninja) to visit the blog and tell us a little more about themselves and their writing with a tonne of fun, confessions, and naughtiness along the way. Strap in tight, this will be one hell of a ride!

Firstly, let’s meet the Ninjas:

Sandra -Cookieface- Antonelli

Sandra Antonelli

Describe yourself in one word:
Badass. OK, OK. Smartass.

What is your Naughty Ninja skill/what do you bring to the Naughty Ninjas?
My über cleaning skillz and ability to wear an apron; smartassed, inappropriate sense of humour that rivals any 12 year-old boy; coffee.

Give us a Naughty Ninja confession (and make it good!):
I hate wearing underpants, but would never be caught without them.

Biggest accomplishment to date:
My PhD.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
I don’t have a bucket list!

Favourite travel experience?
I love going to Sicily. It’s Italy’s best kept secret.

Favourite fictional character:
Elmore Leonard’s Jackie Brown from Rum Punch because she’s 44, hot, whip-smart, and badass. Holy crap, I COULD BE Jackie Brown.

What’s next for you?
My next novel comes out later this year. It’s titled Driving in Neutral. It’s a love story about claustrophobia. Expect promo for it. But for now, with the PhD done, I have three novels going. Right now, one gets a little more ‘on screen’ time than the others, another is 2/3 finished, the third is 3 chapters in. I go with whatever conversation comes into my head, that is, character have discussions, which leads me to work on a particular story. Lately, the housekeeper in my homage to James Bond has been rather, shall I say, vocal. The working title of this book is Cleaning House. It’s about a housekeeper, her boss, her husband, a trust fund, a murder, a pasta company, Jane Eyre, and a toilet brush.

Rhyll Biest

Rhyll Biest

Describe yourself in one word:
Snarky.

What is your Naughty Ninja skill/what do you bring to the Naughty Ninjas?
Advanced inappropriateness.

Give us a Naughty Ninja confession (and make it good!):
At work drinks I held up the wine aerator and said “Does this look like a sex toy to you, guys?” Disturbed expressions ensued.

Biggest accomplishment to date:
Living this long despite my innate dimness and penchant for risky travel.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Visit the slothpital in Costa Rica.

Favourite travel experience?
Living in Prague for a year.

Favourite fictional character:
Eve Levine

What’s next for you?
A naughty novel about a muscular Teutonic god with some serious ink and a knack for knots, and a heroine who fears even her flinty heart won’t be safe from the big, built stonemason.

Cate -Man Eater- Ellink

Cate Ellink

Describe yourself in one word:
Different

What is your Naughty Ninja skill/what do you bring to the Naughty Ninjas?
I bring the elements of science and sex. (I have no idea! LOL)

Give us a Naughty Ninja confession (and make it good!):
I punched a girl in the face once. She was being a real bully and my Dad had always told me bullies were just people no one had stood up to. She went to the school further down the road to mine, and used to get on the bus first and spit at us out the window. I hate being spat on. One day she spat at us, but the bus wasn’t too crowded so the driver stopped and we got on the bus. I wasn’t happy. So without thinking, I stormed down the bus, grabbed her by the front of her shirt and slugged her one. She got off the bus pretty soon after and I was never spat on again. Fortunately, I wasn’t reported.

Biggest accomplishment to date:
Being published in my science career and my writing career were big accomplishments. And in science I won an award for the best paper presented at a conference, that was a huge achievement and one I didn’t even know existed.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
I’d like to do a PhD, but I’m not sure I can fit it in!

Favourite travel experience?
I love the freedom of travel, and the huge number of experiences you can soak in. One experience that sticks in my mind was when I was travelling to Jamaica on my own to meet up with cyber-friends. I was so nervous, even though I’d done all in my power to make sure of my safety. When I sat down in my seat on the plane from Miami to Jamaica, I was struck by something I’d never experienced before. I was the only white person. It gave me a new appreciation to being different. The whole trip was like that. An incredible experience I’ve never forgotten.

Favourite fictional character:
I love a lot of fictional characters but I don’t play favourites! J

What’s next for you?
To keep writing stories I love. I have a new erotic romance coming out later in the year with Escape, called Deep Diving. It’s a fun sex romp set on Lord Howe Island, which is one of my favourite places, with two really athletic people who just don’t stop. I had a lot of fun writing it, and fell in love with the hero. I didn’t want to give him up!

Lily -Beanie Queen- Malone copy

Lily Malone

Describe yourself in one word:
Yoyo-ish.

What is your Naughty Ninja skill/what do you bring to the Naughty Ninjas?
Hellish ninja kicks & movie-making – check it out, here!

Give us a Naughty Ninja confession (and make it good!):
I know my husband’s supercoach (AFL fantasy online game) password and I sabotaged his team before he and I played eachother in our private league. I blamed a power blackout for the anomalies. He never cottoned on.

Biggest accomplishment to date:
A couple of Sundays ago, my book Fairway To Heaven reached No. 250 on the Amazon Australia paid list. That was pretty cool, as far as my writing goes. Otherwise, I had a few good career highlights but those are well behind me now, and my kids are cool, plus I’ve managed to keep my husband around for 14 years.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Go back to Victoria Falls in Africa.

Favourite travel experience?
Walking across the bridge at Victoria Falls that joins Zambia and Zimbabwe. The mist from the falls was amazing – like warm rain.

Favourite fictional character:
I have two: Jason Bourne & Lucas Davenport.

What’s next for you?
After a foray to motorbikes (The Goodbye Ride) and golf (Fairway To Heaven) I’m trying to write my fourth book – His Brand Of Business (a loose connection to my debut His Brand Of Beautiful) and based in the wine industry once again.

GeorginaPenney

Georgina Penney

Describe yourself in one word:
Batty!

What is your Naughty Ninja skill/what do you bring to the Naughty Ninjas?
I’m Ms. Glitterpants so my special skill is fabulous wrongness.

Give us a Naughty Ninja confession (and make it good!):
There are too many to name but I have been known to accidentally flash my neighbours on regular occasions when moshing (and falling down) to a good song.

Biggest accomplishment to date:
Staying sane after being an expatriate in the Middle East and Brunei for seven years.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Living to be a hundred year old naughty old lady.

Favourite travel experience?
Mole watching in the Scottish Highlands:)

Favourite fictional character:
Wonderella

What’s next for you?
So much! A move to Scotland, two more book releases this year, a whole lot of travel and going insane at some point.

sarah belle

Sarah Belle

Describe yourself in one word:
Organised.

What is your Naughty Ninja skill/what do you bring to the Naughty Ninjas?
I can pour a glass of champagne in one continuous stream without it frothing over the top.

Give us a Naughty Ninja confession (and make it good!):
The main reason I used the gymnasium at the Army base where I worked as a civilian was to perve on all those tight, well muscled, hard-bodied soldiers. Love a man in uniform. I think that’s why I married one of them.

Biggest accomplishment to date:
Having four kids in six years and keeping my sanity (although some would argue otherwise).

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Travel the UK. I want to stand in a 1000 year old castle and make up stories about the people who lived there hundreds of years ago.

Favourite travel experience?
I should say my honeymoon to Thailand, but really, any travel that doesn’t involve kids fighting, farting or vomiting is a hit with me.

Favourite fictional character:
Carmilla Karnstein from Carmilla by J.Sheridan LeFanu.

What’s next for you?
I have a new ‘Romagic Comedy’  novel, Déjà Vu Lou, coming out later this year and have nearly finished another manuscript involving an Imaginary friend. Then I’ll move on to the second in the Hindsight series, Foresight, where the house is the recurring character.

roz grashopper groves

Roz Groves

Describe yourself in one word:
Cleverclogs

What is your Naughty Ninja skill/what do you bring to the Naughty Ninjas?
I’m simply a grasshopper, so my official Ninja skills are dormant. However, I bring a fervent love for the written word and an obsession with correct grammar.

Give us a Naughty Ninja confession (and make it good!):
I am sadly lacking in truly naughty things to confess – call it “good girl syndrome”. I will however confess that I, as a romance reader, have never read Georgette Heyer, nor can I read a book where the hero has any kind of mullet.

Biggest accomplishment to date:
Getting a review quoted in the paperback of Fiona Lowe’s Saved by the Bride. I may have squeed when she sent it to me.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
To finish my WIP and get published would be nice.

Favourite travel experience?
Being proposed to in a gondola on the Grand Canal, as we were coming up to the Rialto bridge. The hubby pulled one out of his hat there.

Favourite fictional character:
This is a bit of a Sophie’s Choice for me – picking a favourite character would be like picking your favourite child for me. However, a character that I have loved reading & revisiting is Carponti from Jessica Scott’s Coming Home series. He’s red-headed, one-handed, and wildly inappropriate.

What’s next for you?
I am currently working away on my first book – slowly but surely. It’s a friends-to-lovers tale that has been swimming around in my head on and off for about 10 years. I’m also in the process of redesigning my blog as well. I have decided it needs more purple – you can never have enough purple.

Kitty Ninja JPG

EE Carter

Describe yourself in one word:
Feline

What is your Naughty Ninja skill/what do you bring to the Naughty Ninjas?
A quirky sense of humour, a big dose of cute and the occasional fur ball.

Give us a Naughty Ninja confession (and make it good!):
A famous Australian actor in the 1990s hit on me. I kindly declined his offer.

Biggest accomplishment to date:
Being married 20 years!

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
See the Aurora Borealis

Favourite travel experience?
Something domestic – a 3 day holiday to Melbourne. It was wonderful.

Favourite fictional character:
Emma Peel from The Avengers

What’s next for you?
More writing. I have so many stories I want to tell. I love historicals!

Andra -Madame- Ashe

Andra Ashe

Describe yourself in one word:
Work In Progress (yeah yeah, that’s three words – so tie me up and beat me with a limp lettuce – please)

What is your Naughty Ninja skill/what do you bring to the Naughty Ninjas?
Being the oldest Ninja (by at least a decade I suspect) you’d think I could bring maturity and wisdom … unfortunately I’m more skilled at taking ‘nana naps’ and forgetting to get my contributions in on time.

Give us a Naughty Ninja confession (and make it good!):
I’ve taken burlesque classes and worn stilettos, frilly knickers and pasties while performing a fan dance – ok, it was in class and not for public viewing but I would if you asked nicely 🙂

Biggest accomplishment to date:
Putting together my mum’s biography to tell the story of her life and her courage, as a young woman, in deciding to leave her war-torn homeland to start a new life thousands of kilometres away.  I hope it will be passed down to her descendants and be as precious to them as the experience and the result is to me.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Get a bucket!    Seriously – lots of things I’m going to do but no particular priority but if I have to choose something – totally cliché but a romantic interlude in Venice.

Favourite travel experience?
Going to Latvia with my daughter, to the small town where my mother was born –seeing her childhood home and country school.  Having to use the language I grew up speaking but which I hadn’t really used since childhood.  Connecting to my heritage and introducing my daughter to hers.

Favourite fictional character:
Kate Scarpetta from Patricia Cornwell’s books.  I love Kate because she’s a strong, accomplished woman who struggles with her family and relationship like we do in ‘real life’.  Following her life for over a decade is like meeting up with an old friend and I shed my first tears when reading a book when her partner died.  I’d been with her through the highs and lows and understood her relationship and her feelings and I felt her pain when she lost her man.  That’s good writing!

What’s next for you?
Finishing and submitting a book-length erotic historical romance. Embracing a whole new direction for my ‘day job’ by buying/renovating/selling houses which will hopefully give me more time to write!
