WIP ME INSPIRED: H.C. Brown
WIP Me Inspired: H.C. Brown
I believe most authors know everything about a character, from his scent, to the tick in one cheek when he becomes angry. My sexy hero in Highlander in the Mist, Laird Alexander Murray, slid into my subconscious after watching an episode of The Vikings, in fact, my story and an entire series arrived in seconds after the first episode but my heroes have nothing to do with Vikings. What my muse grasped was the raw sexuality of warriors in medieval times. I love the imagery surrounding a medieval Highlander. The Scottish Highlands are the perfect setting for a story. Not only the beauty of the colourful landscapes but the history both myth and legend has the ability to feed an author’s imagination. I wanted to acknowledge the raw strength and honour Highland warriors relied on to carry them throughout life. My hero is noble, passionate, and willing to give his life for the woman he loves.
The plots of my stories often come in dreams and I have a notepad and pen beside my bed to jot down the details. Highlander in the Mist came after a dream about visiting a Faerie Tree in the Scottish Highlands and tying my wish to a branch. In the dream, I could see a Highland Warrior like a ghost in the mist, an outline of long hair with warrior beads, the flash of metal at his waist, and the sway of his kilt. I wanted to capture that time and view it through the eyes of an Australian romance reader. I created my female lead as a typical girl next door Aussie with a good sense of humour and the survival instinct to rival a gladiator.
Writing historical romance for me is an exciting journey. I love doing the research into the era. From the correct dress and speech to the economic changes happening in the timeframe all, add to the flavour of the story.
I do hope you will join me on a humorous, and sometimes heartbreaking adventure back in time to medieval Scotland in Highlander in the Mist. This is my first Highlander novel and due for worldwide release on 21 November from Luminosity Publishing. My current WIPs include Escape to the Highlands, Stalked, and Jackson. Recent release: Rock ‘n’ Leather from Luminosity Publishing.
It has been great chatting with you today.
