WIP Me Inspired: Lee Christine
Thank you so much J’aimee for the opportunity to appear today on WIP Me Inspired.
The moment of inspiration for In Safe Keeping came from news reports of a separation between James Packer and his wife Erica Baxter. I’d been working through ideas for the third novel in my loosely linked romantic suspense Sydney set series. The series is set around a fictional legal firm. The story also involves the NSW police, the military and two local bikie gangs.
I began to think about my hero, a male lawyer from Poole Greenwood, acting for a character based on James Packer, and another lawyer, my heroine, a sole practitioner, acting for a character based on Erica Baxter. I love the whole conflict of interest scenario, and wanted to explore the idea of two lawyers, already involved in a love affair, suddenly finding themselves acting against each other for one of the wealthiest couples in Australia.
I wanted to make Evan Barclay a brawny lawyer, so I modelled his character on Nick Farr-Jones, the former Australian Rugby Union international. Farr-Jones is a lawyer and very active on the ‘after dinner speaker’ circuit. Evan hates that, and refuses to dine out on his former career. Why?
More inspiration came from a later news report of James Packer and David Gyngel having a fist fight in Bondi. From that, I decided to make Evan’s client not just fabulously wealthy, but also his best friend and the son of the only family Evan has ever known. So Evan is personally invested in this case. And of course he now has Laila on the other side. My hero and heroine are forced together in court, while struggling to keep away from each other. They are torn between their loyalty to each other, and to their clients. And being professional, clients come first.
If readers are a fan of the TV series, ‘The Good Wife’, they might enjoy my ‘In Safe’ series.
This is the trailer link for In Safe Keeping. The book was released on 8th December, and I am very proud to say my son composed the music for it. J
In Safe Keeping
Lee Christine
It was only supposed to be a casual affair, a stress-relieving night time romp, a secret just between the two of them. But when divorce lawyer Laila Richards ends up on the opposite side of the bench to high powered lawyer, Evan Barclay, in a very public, very high profile divorce, she knows their fling will jeopardize the case of her career, and breaks off their relationship.
Stunned by Laila’s decision, Evan vows to make the beautiful lawyer deal with him, both in and out of the courtroom. But when suspicious activity begins to emerge, and Laila’s safety is threatened, Evan fears his client — his best friend, the son of the only family Evan has ever known, may be involved.
Bound by client confidentiality and battling a massive conflict of interest, Laila and Evan fight to win, fight for justice, and fight for a chance at a relationship that’s anything but casual.
