AUSSIE MONTH with Donna Gallagher

Describe yourself in one word:
Organised.

What is your background with regard to writing?
I sort of fell into it just over three years ago. I’d not had any long term desire to write but when the voices started in my head I had no choice. I’m definitely still in the learning stage.

Tell us about An Opportunity Seized:
I’m very excited for the release of the first book in my new romantic suspense series. Having written seven books around my fictional rugby league team with my League of Love series it has been quite refreshing trying something new. My new heroes are ex-soldiers who have teamed up to form the Haven Security firm. Here’s the series blurb – Nathan Haven and the highly skilled, lethal ex-military men that make up the team at Haven Security are more than qualified to protect their clients from danger but these sexy alphas are completely defenceless when it comes to the women that capture their hearts.

What inspired this novel?
As I said I really wanted to try something a bit different. Not that I love my footy players any less it’s just a girls got to try new things. I also had a fantastic real life experience that worked beautifully for a first meeting in An Opportunity Seized.

What are you reading right now?
Shooting Butterflies by T.M. Clark.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
I’d love to do a cruise along the Rhine River. I used to have ‘attend a RT Booklovers Convention’ on my list – but I ticked that one off by going to New Orleans last year.

Best thing about being an Aussie?
Rugby League – no surprise there! I love my sport.

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
I recently converted a friend who was under the misbelief that reading a romance was somehow not worthwhile reading. I gave her a Cathryn Hein book, my friend was from Singleton. She loved the book and has since bought all Cathryn Hein’s books. There is a romance book for every taste. Give a few books a go before you start to belittle avid romance readers. My League of Love books all have a different storyline, I’ve written about depression sufferers, single parenthood, poor self-image issues and PTSD. Yes, a romance book can deal with social problems.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
The second book in my Haven security Series releases in May and I’m off to Dallas for the 2015 RT Convention. I will be in Canberra for ARRC in March and can’t wait to catch up with all my author and reader friends.

What were your big achievements of 2014?
I was having a little go-slow in the author department in 2014 so only managed one new release. I was pleased to see that Cassie’s Choice did receive a few nominations for the ARRA awards.

An Opportunity Seized
Donna Gallagher

Two unforeseen moments in time— One brings them together—the other is a danger so real it could tear them apart.

Antoinette ‘Toni’ Grimaldi prefers to keep out of the spotlight, blend in with the crowd and experience life the same as the bulk of the population. Being a mining magnate’s daughter is a difficult persona for her to uphold. She just doesn’t fit in with high society standards, always managing to say something inappropriate or trip over her own feet at the worst possible moment, resulting in that look of disappointment and embarrassment her parents inevitably wear whenever she’s around.

Meeting a handsome stranger who comes to her rescue and asks her out on a date is so much more than Toni could have ever hoped for on her dream holiday—one she is surprised her parents have even permitted her to take alone. Her fairy-tale moment is short-lived, though, when Toni discovers the stranger has been hired by her family to follow her every move—under the guise of keeping her safe.

Jason finds he is drawn to Antoinette. She is nothing at all like the socialite he was expecting to shadow around London’s nightclubs. After an awkward first meeting, he convinces Toni that there is more to his interest in her than just as her bodyguard. To his surprise, his attraction for the soft-spoken, thoughtful woman grows, despite his usual reluctance to commit to any kind of relationship.

Then a disaster at one of the family-owned mines and a string of death threats force Toni to return home, and her need for a bodyguard becomes a life and death reality.
