What is your background with regard to writing?
 I’ve always been a story-teller! With book number six due for release in June 2015 I think I may be brave enough to call myself an author.

 

Tell us about Safe Harbour:
Safe Harbour is a ‘friends to lovers’ story with a whole lot of small town angst and opens with a dramatic ocean rescue in the middle of a storm. I loved writing this story.

 

What inspired this novel?
A chance visit to Cooktown and a meeting with the local policeman who ran the PCYC set me to thinking ‘what if?’ I loved exploring the idea of a couple of ambitious people following their dreams to the big smoke, but ultimately coming home to their small town so they could make a difference.  It’s set around Agnes Waters and The Town of 1770 on the Queensland coast near Bundaberg. Capt G and I found ourselves trapped in the Burnett River on Roobinesque with a strong wind warning when we were sailing from Brisbane to Cairns. We spent a week exploring the area and Safe Harbour is a tribute to the guts and determination of all those loclas who endured the floods and devastation.

There’s always room for optimism in our lives.

 

What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
Northern Heat stars a character from Safe Harbour and is set in and around Cooktown. With a cyclone bearing down on the close-knit community, my hero, Conor, finds himself trapped by raging floodwaters and battling a psychopath hell bent on revenge. This is a redemption story and after everything Conor’s been through he deserves to find love again.  Do Dr Kristy Dark and her teenage daughter, Abby, have room in their hearts for him? I hope so!

 

What were your big achievements of 2014?
Taking on the role of Regional Flying Manager Qld for Qantaslink has pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it’s very rewarding being responsible for 260 pilots. The learning curve has been vertical… Managing to write my sixth book in the middle of all that has been challenging, but I’ve scraped in on my deadlines!
