Lily Malone

AUSSIE MONTH with Lily Malone

Describe yourself in one word:

What is your background with regard to writing?
I was a journalist and magazine editor for years, with a specialty in wine industry magazines. I think this is why I like writing about wine and vineyards.

Tell us about Fairway To Heaven:
Fairway to Heaven is my new book, it will be out in April 2015 with Escape Publishing. This is my ‘golf’ story that isn’t really about golf at all. It’s set in Geographe Bay (Busselton and Margaret River area in Western Australia). It is about a mother’s attempts to regain her sexual identity and her mojo after splitting up with the father of her young son. She runs into an old flame, and… magic happens.

What inspired this novel?
Many (many) discussions in playgrounds with other mothers about the physical and mental trials and tribulations we go through after having children, particularly in terms of getting back our sexuality, and finding ourselves as being more than just someone’s “mum”.

What are you reading right now?
Lost in Kakadu by Kendall Talbot on my Kindle. I just finished a paperback book called Mr Clarinet set in Haiti.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Go back to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

Best thing about being an Aussie?

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
There’s enough evil and terror in the world. Romance is a celebration of positive things.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
First, my new re-released Fairway To Heaven in April with Escape. Then hopefully Escape also enjoy and accept my fourth book for publication, So Far Into You. I also have been in touch with some other cricket-loving authors and we might cook up some kind of cricket romance anthology between us 🙂

What were your big achievements of 2014?
I made the final of the Perth’s Shortest Story competition with a 49-word story in November.

I survived #WeekendAtLilys with Jennie Jones and Juanita Kees when they came for a visit in August.

I self-published Fairway to Heaven and it had wonderful reviews (including my first review from a bloke). It brought ‘dodgy fannies’ into the light of day. (Not every heroine is physically perfect!!).

I finished So Far Into You, which is a rural romance I’ve been working on (on and off) for 4 years. It was the first book I ever wrote, and has morphed many, many times to something that I’m proud of. I think my writing improves all the time, unlike my muffin-baking.

His Brand Of Beautiful
Lily Malone

When marketing strategist Tate Newell first meets wine executive Christina Clay, he has one goal in mind: tell Christina he won’t design the new brand for Clay Wines. Tell her thanks, but no thanks. So long, good night.

But Tate is a sucker for a damsel in distress and when a diary mix-up leaves Christina in his debt, Tate gets more than he bargained for.

What does a resourceful girl do when the best marketing brain in the business won’t play ball? She bluffs. She cheats. And she ups the ante. But when the stakes get too high, does anybody win?

Falling in love was never part of this branding brief.
