AUSSIE MONTH with Lexxie Couper
Describe yourself in one word:
Playful
What is your background with regard to writing?
Started writing at six. Even back then, my stories were a little…different and sometimes twisted. At fourteen I wanted to be Australia’s answer to Stephen King. Then I discovered romance books and I decided I wanted to be Australia’s answer to Stephen King WITH ROMANCE!! By the time I was 20, I was devouring romance books and writing them with equal gusto. It wasn’t until 2004 that I actually plucked up the courage to submit something I’d written (an erotic sci-fi. Thank you Captain Kirk and Doctor Who). It was accepted. After I picked myself up from the kitchen floor, I started writing the next one…and haven’t stopped.
Tell us about Breathless for You, Outback Skies Book One:
It’s the first book in my new series set in the fictitious Outback town of Wallaby Ridge, and focuses on four hot Aussie men who work in the sky. There’s a Flying Doctors doc, an aviation fire-fighter, a heli-musterer and a cop. Breathless for You opens with all four men having a drink in the Outback Skies pub before a medical emergency pulls the doc, Matt Corvin, away. Matt’s recovering from a broken heart but that recovery is impeded by the fact his pilot is the stuff of his every desire. Of course, this being a romance, his pilot, Tash, is already half-in love with him, but boy, does she have some…issues 🙂
What inspired this novel?
Matt was in the last book of my Heart of Fame series, Blackthorne. Without giving too much away, his story in Blackthorne didn’t end that well. I knew, even as I was writing Matt’s last scene in that book he wasn’t going to leave me alone until I gave him a HEA. I also knew I wasn’t going to make it easy for him. And then it hit me: what would happen if a man went to one of the most isolated places on the planet (the Outback) to be alone, only to find himself spending every day confined to a small plane with a woman he couldn’t stop thinking about? Essentially, this novel was inspired by my unsettling need to make my characters suffer.
What are you reading right now?
The last Fever book from Karen Marie Moning, and the first Mercy Thompson book (Moon Called) from Patricia Briggs
Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Scuba-dive on the Great Barrier Reef. Definitely.
Best thing about being an Aussie?
Our sense of humour. And Vegemite.
What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
It’s bloody brilliant. It allows you to experience the full gamut of emotions as well as escape to a world where you know, no matter how wretched or harrowing the journey is, the ending will make you smile and your heart soar.
What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
Oh man. There’s Outback Skies series from Samhain Publishing, which is four novellas. There’s also the Stimulated series, five novellas that are all ménages (Blowing it Off was the first in the series. The second, Revving it Up, will be available early March). Aaaand then there’s the Always series from Momentum, a three-book NA series I’ve written as Cherie M Hudson that starts with Unconditional (the story of a 22 yr old American student with Parkinson’s disease and the Aussie boy who falls in love with her).
What were your big achievements of 2014?
Being a part of the Down and Dirty box set with Rhian Cahill, Sami Lee and Jess Dee. That was, I think, the best thing. The best thing.
Breathless for You, Outback Skies Book One

When desire goes sky high, things get hot. Really hot.
The middle of the Outback seems the perfect place for city-bred Dr. Matt Corvin to recover from the beating life has given him. Working in Wallaby Ridge as a member of the Royal Flying Doctors is just what this doctor needs, until he finds himself paired with a pilot who’s every sexual fantasy that’s ever done barrel rolls through his head. She rekindles in him a desire for something he thought he’d never want again—connection.
Natacha Freeman was one medical exam away from RAAF fighter pilot status when her lungs royally screwed her over. Flying a medical plane in the Outback should have provided isolation to match her desolation. Instead, she’s stuck in a tiny plane with a nice guy who sends her hormones screaming full throttle.
Though Tash is jumping on the brakes with both feet, Matt’s not above using his thorough knowledge of the human body to change her mind. Until the dangerous reality of living in the Outback brings them crashing to the ground.
Warning: If gorgeous sexy doctors with incredible bedside manner and a dominating sexual side make you shudder with sheer orgasmic rapture, this book may be…wait for it…just what the doctor ordered.
