2017 Christmas Extravaganza featuring Breathless In The Bush
Breathless in the Bush is an RWAustralia writing group based in southern NSW. It contains a diverse group of writers and is, in fact, the longest-established RWA affiliated writing group.
The authors of this Anthology would love to celebrate with AusRom Today readers by sharing one of their favourite Christmas memories.
Cassandra Samuels – One of my fave memories of Christmas is of St Nicholas. Our family would get together and wait for the knock on the door. He would give us a chocolate letter (C for me), candy and spiced cookies – called Pepernoten – along with a small gift. Today, my family and I still celebrate and I love seeing my children and their children continue to enjoy the delight of St Nicholas as I did.
Marilyn Forsyth – The last Christmas I spent with my grandfather is very special to me. All the family gathered at Nan and Pop’s place, and it was just one of those times that makes you smile when you look back on it because of all the love and laughter (and fabulous food) that we shared. I hope I am creating memories as wonderful as this for my own grandkids.
Helene Cowan – Christmas! The excitement leading up to the day! Little ones eager to help decorate the tree; delicious smells as cake, mince pies, shortbread and other goodies emerge from the oven; mysterious brightly wrapped packages piling up under the tree; family members gathering together; the nativity scene and carols ringing joyfully in the old stone church. My memories of Christmas!
Lyndy Boyd – One of my favourite memories: ‘Twas the night before Christmas and feigning sleep I could hear a repetitive, ‘clang’ followed by an expletive or three. I determined my father’s voice, then Mr Wilson from two doors down. More clanging. More expletives. Overnight Santa transformed the backyard into a wonderful playground. The little ones were impressed.
Sharon Burke – my favourite Christmas memory is of my children’s joy at Christmas time when they were very young. The sheer excitement of preparing for Santa’s arrival and the dawn of Christmas day. Their squeals of glee as they unwrapped each parcel. The special feeling of family. Of being with those you love.
Enisa Haines –A lot of my favourite Christmas memories are of meeting with the Breathless in the Bush group where we put our serious writer sides away and simply enjoy the friendships that have sprung through the years. We all come together at our December meeting and share great food and loud conversations. It truly is a time of celebration that I cherish.
This year the group decided to write some Christmas short stories and put them together in an Anthology for everyone. Hence, A Very Aussie Christmas was born.

I love this anthology, and enjoyed the huge differences between the writers. The stories are quick to read, something easy to sit down with a cup of tea (or Christmas cheer!) in this busy week leading up to Christmas. Or in the lull after. My sister enjoyed it too, after I recommended it to her. I enjoy reading your posts, thanks! And have a merry Christmas.
