Ten Things You Didn’t Know About… Susanne Bellamy

 

1. If you could interview anyone, past or present, who would it be and what would be your lead question?
   Shakespeare inspires me with the range and depth of his characters. I want to know where he drew his inspiration for them from. I know he delved into existing storied and histories for plot ideas (seems even for the Bard, there is nothing new under the sun!), but it’s the psychological understandings about character that resonates with me.
2. Your most played song/band?
   ‘At Last’ by Etta James. I played it on loop when I wrote a very special scene in ‘Winning the Heiress’ Heart’.
3. Favourite genre of romance?
   To write – rural; to read – historical (any period, so long as it is well researched and accurate)
4. Favourite food?
   Almost any pasta dish, and Red Rock chips, especially when I’m mulling over a scene.
5. Favourite drink?
   Extra strong English Breakfast tea; a good single malt whisky when I finish writing a book.
6. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
   Teleportation – I dislike long drives and loathe long-haul flights.
7. If you weren’t writing, what would you be doing?
   Going round the bend! I ‘retired’ so I could write full time because I love what I do.
8. Favourite quote?
   Use it or lose it. This applies in so many ways, from staying fit both physically and mentally, to decluttering. I’m a recent convert to Marie Kondo’s KonMari approach, although I know I will balk at reducing the size of my library!
9. Tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn’t know…
   I studied ballet for thirteen years but chose to go to university rather than pursue a career on stage. But there is a part of me that would have loved to have performed in musicals. (Guess I’d need to learn to sing for that!)
10. Most famous person you’ve ever met? Tell us about the meeting!
    Not sure if this counts but I was at school at the same time as Olympic gold medallist, Glynis Nunn-Cearns (she was Saunders back then) and remember watching her blitz the field in several events.
