Author Spotlight: Jennifer St George

Describe yourself in one word: Determined.

What is your background with regard to writing?
I loved writing stories as a kid but that passion was killed off by a teacher in primary school who said my stories weren’t any good. She wanted short stories and I would write pages and pages and pages about princesses being kidnapped then saved by a handsome prince. The teacher was clearly not a romance fan. When I graduated from uni, I wrote professionally for over twenty years (PR, marketing and business writing), but returned to writing stories when I took time off work to be home with the children when they were little.

When did you first begin writing with a view of embarking on a career as a published author?
I began writing seriously about five years ago when I did well in a Romance Writers of Australia competition. This gave me the confidence to keep going.

Tell us a little more about Tempted by the Billionaire Tycoon:
I loved writing this story. Tempted by the Billionaire Tycoon, was inspired by a trip to a health retreat, an experience that gave me my heroine’s profession. Poppy Bradford is the GM of Sirona, a luxury spa resort in the picturesque English countryside.  Another trip to France and the UK inspired the lavish, deeply romantic locations in Tempted. Each time I visit Paris I fall under its spell – again. Seeing Versailles for the first time left me in awe of the beauty and romance of France, its history and great art. Poppy feels this too when she visits France for the first time. My billionaire hero, Nic Capitini, of course has seen it all before, but it feels very different now he is with Poppy!

Nicolo Capitini is the ultimate alpha male; strong, assertive, and oh so charming. Tell me, how do you find the inspiration for a character like Nicolo and what challenges arise whilst writing such a character?
I love Nicolo. He’s such an honourable man but his history means he can be blind to the truth. The challenge was to still make him empathetic to the reader when he was making decisions that seemed heartless. But, he was making these decisions without complete information and his history has prejudiced him to jump to inaccurate conclusions.

What one character trait will most endear both Poppy and Nicolo to your readers?
Persistence. These two never give up.

What do you want readers to know about the romance genre?
That at the end of a long hard day, there’s always passion, conflict, escapism and a happy ever after waiting for you between the pages of a romance novel.

If you weren’t writing, what would you be doing?
Probably working as I used to, either being a marketing manager or management consultant. Every couple of years I take on the Communication Manager’s role for the Byron Bay Writers Festival, just to keep my hand in the professional sphere.

What’s next for you?
I’m currently writing book three in my Billionaire Romance series.

Ten Quickies:

What book is currently on your nightstand?
Book? My nightstand is overflowing with books – two towers of books.  I had lunch with Anna Campbell and Rachel Bailey the other day so I have Anna’s What a Duke Dares and Rachel’s The Nanny Proposition sitting on top at the moment.

What advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
Remember to have fun along the way.

It’s almost Christmas (yes, already!), tell us: what are you hoping to find under the tree this year?
A new kindle (old one just broke)

Favourite Christmas recipe?
A Xmas themed cheesecake (that someone else has made.  I’m rubbish in the kitchen)

Favourite Christmas tradition?
Sipping French champagne and eating pancakes during present opening.

Share with us your biggest New Years Resolution for 2015:
Hmmm. I always have so many, hard to choose the biggest – probably write more books.

Favourite travel experience?
Taking my fiancé to Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland for four days…and it snowed!

Number one thing to do on your bucket list:
Walk the El Camino de Santiago in Spain

Milk, dark or white chocolate? Dark with sea salt

Red, white, bubbly? Chardonnay. I never made it out of the eighties.

Three strikes and you’re out…

A series of strange accidents are occurring at Sirona, a luxury spa resort in the picturesque English countryside. Billionaire owner Nic Capitini wants the person responsible sacked. But the law requires he give three official warnings. Nic checks in undercover to gather the evidence he needs, and when he arrives to find his general manager enjoying the spa’s facilities, he doesn’t think it will prove very challenging.

Despite first impressions, it isn’t long before Nic realises that not only is Poppy Bradford beautiful, she’s a brilliant manager who runs the resort superbly. And the chemistry between them is undeniable. When Poppy herself is threatened, it seems clear the incidents are part of a systematic campaign of sabotage. Even though he believes she’s innocent, Nic knows Poppy is hiding something. But will learning her secret mean losing her forever?

Tempted by the Billionaire Tycoon is part of the Billionaire series by Jennifer St George, but can certainly be enjoyed as a stand-alone book.
