AUSSIE MONTH with Cate Ellink

Describe yourself in one word:
Unique

What is your background with regard to writing?
I love it. I can’t not write. It’s my dream…to be an author…although, it’s not as easy as I imagined!

Tell us about Deep Diving:
Stunning Lord Howe Island is the backdrop for my story. It’s about two highly competitive athletes, Samantha and Cooper, who aren’t interested in a relationship when they start their holiday fling. But spending eleven days in each other’s company has them re-evaluating.

What inspired this novel?
My favourite footy player…I was dreaming about how you’d ever be able to meet him, and then my crazy imagination went wild! Add in my favourite location and it was the best fun to write. How I wish I was Sam!

What are you reading right now?
Adam Spencer’s The Big Book of Numbers. I read a number a day. I’m also reading Favel Parrett’s When The Night Comes.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Swim with whale sharks. We tried but the whale sharks avoided us, so we have a repeat trip and I can’t wait!

Best thing about being an Aussie?
There’s no better place in the world to live and holiday.

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
There’s lots of variety with happy endings! Erotic romance is liberating. In a society where sex is hidden, I love being able to explore this important facet of human nature, where emotion and sex collide. I don’t write to shock or titillate, I write to explore.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
I have to write hard and fast because nothing is finished. 2015 is my year of completing!

What were your big achievements of 2014?
Writing-wise I had two e-books out – Deep Diving and Secret Confessions: Sydney Housewives Lana – and dipped my toe into the self-publishing world – 30 November Kisses. Family-wise, Mr E and I took both our fathers on a Zoofari at Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo, (staying overnight at the zoo and behind-the-scenes tours) and then drove up to Lightning Ridge for a few days. Bucket list things for all of us and we all loved it!

Samantha is celebrating her newly retired status from competitive triathlons with a diving holiday in her favourite place in the world: Australia’s Lord Howe Island. But all divers need a buddy, and Sam can’t dive solo. A chance meeting with rugby league superstar Cooper Sterling in the dive shop seems serendipitous. Sam can’t wait to have a partner who might be able to keep up with her.

It soon becomes evident that Cooper and Sam are compatible both in and out of the water, and things gets seriously sexy. But Sam is disinclined to be another football groupie, and Cooper has been burned before. So the rules are clear: a holiday fling, no strings attached, and they part as friends at the end.
But as the final days of their time together come to a close and a life apart becomes a reality, Sam and Cooper start to question their decision. Is this holiday fling really the finish line or can Sam and Cooper turn their friendly competition into more than sizzling sex?
