AUSSIE MONTH with Maggi Andersen

Describe yourself in one word:
Creative

What is your background with regard to writing?
Took me some years to become published after completing a BA degree in English and an MA in Creative Writing. I learnt a lot in that time though, so I don’t consider it wasted. I write Historical romance, contemporary romantic suspense, mysteries and young adult novels.

Tell us about What A Rake Wants – The Spies of Mayfair series, Book Three and what inspired this novel:
Like many, I love the Regency era. It offers so much for a writer, from the Napoleonic wars to George IV and the mannered society of the ton.  I’m a fan of James Bond and spy novels. I’ve often written about spies, they make great heroes, daring, clever and agile. I decided to write a series and The spies of Mayfair was the result.

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
To visit New York, I’ve never been there.

Best thing about being an Aussie?
The people, the climate, the uniqueness of a country at a distance from the rest of the world. It’s a great place to grow up and raise a family.

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
It’s so diverse isn’t it? It’s perfect escapism, which is why romance is so popular. I love a story with a happy ending. You’ll find sensual romance, humour, suspense, and often intrigue in my stories.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
My new Regency series, The Baxendale Sisters, and a Victorian Gothic novel published by Knox Robinson Publishing, The Baron’s Wife.  No spies this time, although the Brandreth family from Taming a Gentleman Spy do feature in The Baxendale Sisters Series. (They are neighbours)  There are five Baxendale sisters and each has her own story to tell. The first story, Lady Honor’s Debt is published on 20th January and is available for pre-order. Next, Lady Faith Takes a Leap.  Meet the other sisters: Lady Hope, Lady Charity and Lady Mercy. Details and excerpts on my website.

What were your big achievements of 2014?
I joined a great group of authors at Embracing Romance.

Taming a Gentleman Spy  Book Two, and What a Rake Wants Book Three of The Spies of Mayfair Series were published. I acquired many of my backlist books and ventured into self-publishing. The first: The Duke’s Mysterious Lady, which has been a bestseller on Amazon.
