AUSSIE MONTH with Allison Butler

Describe yourself in one word:
Happy

What is your background with regard to writing?
I started writing about 12 years ago and quickly discovered I had a lot to learn. While it’s taken me years to learn my craft, and I’m still learning, I’ve loved every (well, almost everyJ) moment and have met so many amazing people along the way.

Tell us about The Healer:
The Healer is the story of an Englishwoman, a Scottish Laird, a case of mistaken identity, and a love that will surpass all barriers.

What inspired this novel?
When I’m not writing I care for the elderly in an aged care facility. Aside from being curious about how sick people were treated back in medieval Scotland, I believe healing is more than offering remedies to make them feel better. A touch on the hand, a kind word or a smile can work wonders and help someone forget they’re ill for a little while. My heroine, Lynelle, pretends to be a skilled healer and through her I was able to show my beliefs.

What are you reading right now?
I’ve just started reading Secret Confessions: Sydney Housewives – Lana by Cate Ellink

Number one thing to do on your bucket list?
Aside from revisiting Scotland, I’d love to go to Prague.

Best thing about being an Aussie?
Everything! But if I have to choose one thing, I’d say The Great Aussie Road Trip! On a recent ride to Mudgee on the back of my husband’s motorbike, I loved seeing Aussie family cars packed to the hilt with luggage, bikes, camping gear and smiling kids, as they drove to their school holiday destinations. Great memories!

What you want readers to know about the romance genre?
The romance genre is special to me because the stories can make you laugh, make you cry and worry so much for the characters that you have to stay up all night to reach the end where you are guaranteed a Happily Ever After.

What have you got in store for your readers in 2015?
I have a couple of exciting things in the works for 2015 and I can’t wait to share the good news as soon as I can.

What were your big achievements of 2014?
Finding a fabulous home for The Healer with Escape Publishing

The Healer
Allison Butler

An outcast in her own home for as long as she can remember,  Lynelle Fenwick will do anything to earn her father’s approval. Including exaggerating her healing skills, and setting off alone to rescue her step-brother from a band of raiding Scots.

Living under a curse that has haunted the Closeburn Clan for years, Laird William Kirkpatrick, will do anything to save his sole surviving brother. He may not believe in curses, but his clan does, and the growing number of graves seems to support their side. Having banished all healers from the clan for trickery, he has no choice but to allow an Englishwoman, claiming to be a skilled healer, into his home and into the room of his wounded brother.

Enemies by birth and circumstance, they can only succeed together. But blood runs deep, and tensions high. What matters the desires of a heart?
