Build Us Your Ideal Story with Narrelle M Harris
A recipe for monsters, mayhem and a forever love—Ravenfall by Narrelle M Harris
I love a challenge with a story-building menu, and creating a smorgasbord to match the cross-genre richness of my new paranormal thriller romance, Ravenfall, is a delicious one.
With $10 to spend, I am building my meal around a Once in a Lifetime love ($5). The choice contains a certain irony, as one of my two lead characters, James Sharpe, is a vampire. So technically he’s somewhere between dead and his second lifetime while the man who becomes the love of his life (or undeath) is a very human artist named Gabriel Dare. Gabriel’s lived enough for two or three lifetimes already, with the secrets that he carries from his childhood and adult years he’s determined to live independent of his family.
Gabriel and James connect, though, sharing a similar dark sense of humour. Each wounded in their own way, each cautious about what a relationship might mean, they are nevertheless falling very deeply in love. In the end, the linguistics of ‘once in a lifetime’ matter less than their determination to be together for as much of forever as they can manage – if they can both survive what lies ahead.
The ‘conflict that forces personal growth’ dish ($3) comes as much from James’s fears that he’s dangerous to Gabriel as it comes from the terrible mystery they find themselves tangled in, along with friends, estranged family, suspicious allies and unseen enemies.
People that Gabriel knew when he was homeless are disappearing – and dying. When the vampire who sired James turns out to be involved, it leads to a larger threat, and one much more dangerous. They must combine their forces, and forge alliances where there isn’t much trust.
Gabriel and James trust each other implicitly, of course, but that side dish of unquestioned trust ($1) between them won’t protect them from the monsters worse than vampires who threaten them and everyone who matters to them. The conflict is far from easily resolved – there is definitely more than one price to pay – but they will rely on their unbreakable connection ($1) to give them strength.
This four course meal has depth and savour, spiced with danger, sweetened with devotion. There are even garnishes of erotic connection to add a special tang to the dish and Ravenfall a feast to remember.

What would you do for love?
Would you kill? Would you die? Would you give up your soul?
British soldier, Dr James Sharpe, returned from Afghanistan a changed man. Like most war veterans haunted by deadly choices and the horrors of battle, James struggles against his demons. Unlike other ex-soldiers, his demons are real. Transformed in the heat of a desert battlefield, James Sharpe is now a vampire.
Struggling London artist, Gabriel Dare, has his own secrets – like who he really is, and why he lived on the streets before lodging with Dr Sharpe; like the ghosts he used to see, that made others question his sanity.
James knows Gabriel is the best thing in his life, but questions his ability to love and fears he’s a danger to all. Gabriel knows there’s something different about his enigmatic landlord, but can’t deny his attraction.
When some of Gabriel’s street friends go missing, he discovers that London is full of monsters – real, vicious, otherworldly monsters.
Risking all for love, James and Gabriel join a clairvoyant cop and an unusual Earl to uncover the truth; for it seems the vampire who sired James is back in London – with a diabolical agenda that threatens the entire nation.
