Build Us Your Ideal Story with Elizabeth Squire

Thank you for inviting me to build my ideal story J’aimee. I could dine out on this menu every night, it’s hard not to want a taste of everything.

$5 – Sigh worthy male lead

I’ve always had a taste for the top shelf so I’m splashing half of my allowance on a sigh worthy male lead. After all, I see no point in denying myself—or my heroine, for that matter.

In Closer To Sin, my hero Sinclair Charlcroft, Marquis Esselton is alpha-hero to the last breath.

My heroine Liliane realises she’s in trouble from the first moment she looks across the smoky tavern and spies his silhouette darkening the doorway. She’d been expecting an older man, someone safe, someone she could manipulate to her satisfaction. Not someone who was likely to make her forget her own name. Nothing has prepared her for the enigmatic Monsieur St Clair, the man who answers to the name of Sin and tempts her with passion and danger.

“The air around her seemed to ripple and she felt, rather than saw, the moment he decided to move. Holding her gaze, he moved from the doorway and light flooded back into the room. Her breath caught in her throat. It was incongruous that a man of his height could move with such surety and grace, almost a menacing prowl. Although one thing was certain, there was absolutely nothing dandified about him. As he made his way through the tavern his commanding posture induced the inn’s patrons to step aside in deference.”

$3 – Conflict that forces personal growth

If I have a taste for the decadence of the top shelf, I also love a bit spice with my romance, and nothing adds spice like a little conflict. Especially when that conflict involves a sigh worthy male lead, and a headstrong heroine who is has assumed the identity of a French agent and will do anything to conceal her true identity.

Manipulated by Liliane’s cousin, Liliane and Sin join forces but neither is happy about their forced proximity, and each has secrets they must conceal from each other. But, secrets have a way of revealing themselves, and for Liliane and Sin, their secrets are only just beginning to unravel. Liliane, having traded convention for a secret identity and a flintlock pistol, is not ready to face the consequences of her actions, but Sin, having exposed Liliane’s most guarded secret sees only one acceptable outcome—if he can only overcome his sense of betrayal. The conflict born of their deception is just the start of their emotional journeys.

 $2 – Dizzying sexual chemistry

Ah, the perfect accompaniment to my menu, and an absolute steal at just $2.  So I now have a sigh worthy male lead, a whole lot of conflict courtesy of a headstrong heroine, and a liberal application of dizzying sexual chemistry – the perfect recipe for a sizzling romance. Mix it all together and serve generously.

“He followed her hand as she tucked an offending strand behind her ear, only to be drawn to her eyes; they were luminous pools, even in the poorly lit room. Ah, but her mouth. It was full and luscious and he could feast there for a month. She was demure and provocative, woven into a labyrinth of temptation. And trouble—but not of the kind he was looking to indulge in.”
