BOOK OF THE MONTH: Lesley Truffle’s The Scandalous Life of Sasha Torte

The Scandalous Life of Sasha Torte
Lesley Truffle

A wild romp of dastardly deeds, intrepid protagonists, dark villains, wild gangs, luxurious hotels … and mouth-watering treats.

In the winter of 1912 on the wild West Coast of Tasmania, Wolfftown’s most notorious heiress and murderess, Sasha Torte, tells the tale of her own spectacular downfall.

Forsaken by her parents and raised by criminals and reprobates, Sasha becomes a world-famous pastry chef at the tender age of seventeen. Entanglement with the disreputable Dasher brothers leads to love, but also to a dangerous addiction.

Behind bars in Wolfftown’s gaol, Sasha sips premium champagne as she recalls a life of seduction, betrayal, ghosts, opium and an indiscreet quantity of confectionary — and plots her escape.

About the Author
Lesley Truffle was born in London and has travelled throughout the world. She has worked as a secondary teacher, photographer, hotel maid, fringe actor and in art galleries, bars, nightclubs and other jobs too ghastly to mention. While exhibiting her art photography in Melbourne galleries Lesley realised she wanted to create imaginary stories and interior monologues, and returned to writing. Her fiction piece ‘A Man of Fashion’ was published in Scarlet Stiletto — The Second Cut in 2011, and ‘Memoir of a Trollop’ was performed by Baggage Productions in 2013.

Lesley is also the author of Hotel du Barry, of which the New Zealand Women’s Weekly said, ‘This is a wonderful romp of a novel that brilliantly evokes the attraction and the dangers of the Jazz Age. There is plenty of fabulous fashion and empathetic characters – it cries out to be made into a film starring Helen Mirren.’ Lesley is based in Melbourne and you can find her online at http://lesleytruffle.com/
